Metro Haynes manual is a good start for gearbox stuff.

Bugger off, I'm getting there.

SOme people will say they are no good for road use because of the noise they make, but I think and im sure everyone else does on here, that they sound great and would fit them without hesitation..
It all depends how much power you will be running and how bothered you are about noise

When i fitted a s/c box to my last engine every body said they are realy noisey but i think they sound great? so thats what i will do.
just a few more questions- do i have to fit a grub screw into the box to stop the shaft of the idle gear spinning. and how mutch difference will it make with then being 1.04:1 ratio.
( i had to buy a new gearbox because in my last engine a rod bolt snaped and fu**ed every thing apart from the head)

sorry i don't know whot you mean by integral?
the bearings are in the center of the gear and the shaft fits into the gearbox. you have to knock the old roller bearing out the gearbox and the shaft just pushes into the hole. but i am wored about it spining in the gearbox insted of on the bearing.

sorry, that bit confused me! u mean grub the bearing to stop that spinning, not stop the shaft spinning!? I'm pretty sure the bearing spins in its own housing and not the recess itself but could be wrong.

I have seen idler gears that spin on a separate shaft, cant see that these are much cop imo as the gear will wear the shaft down something chronic! I believe these two-piece idlers are cheaper copies.

those are the roller type, i think they need some work to fit as the roller bearings are larger than the needle bearing type.

Minispeed do perfectly good needle drop gears for about ?260. Remember that the A and A+ series have different sized Primary crank and idler shafts so make sure you get the right set!
