Sold the turbo and seeing what the C20XE can do!

Near Lincoln

Hoping to run somewhere around 12-15psi.

Here's my thoughts on spec but may be miles out. Any suggestions welcomed

+20 overbore using omega turbo dished pistons
zetec oil jets
SW5 cam
VMAX everyday140 head
orange diapraghm and uprated clutch plate
straight cut drops and standard helicoil box (Mistake or not?)
Lightened and balanced flywheel/crank nitrided
Mirage manifolds
Custom 2" exhaust system
Standard renault 5 turbo, water cooled
Aldon Mk1 modded dizzy
Compression ratio 8.5:1 (?)

Ive got a cosworth 2wd intercooler aswell but not sure if ill end up with a R5 one depending on space.

As for cooling ill be side mounted rad (not sure on the best yet, may go for an alloy one) with electric fan/fans as i want to ditch the mechanical one if possible. Might use 2 electric ones doing a push-pull type thing set at 2 different temps so hopefully only use one of them most of the time.

Im new to this so im on a steep learning curve!
Will listen to any advice given.

Aiming for 150bhp but want things to hold up to it. Obviously this isnt going to be an everyday driver but wants to be as realiable as possible

only thing from past experience with other peoples turbo mini is even with the straight cut drops the standard helical box will just get chewed up when using anything over 10psi. but the basic spec sounds very good and not too ott so it should be reliable, those are my thoughts *smiley*

ive got a renault intercooler for sale mate, and while i would rather make aquick buck, i'll tlel you one thing: dont bother.

the renault 5 intercooler wouldnt be a great deal of use to you, its really deep and hard to find a good spot for it. The kinks in the pipework woud need to be immense. Having said all that ive not put a great amount of work in to trying to position it so i might eb wrong.

as far as i was aware the cosworth one was a better one to fit. although that might just have been in clubbies

Yeah i havent had a play with fitment of the cosworth one yet. May fit nicely but thought that it was best in clubbies.

Got all these bits to trial fit before i have the shell resprayed.

Want to keep it as standard as possible from the outside with only a few mods

Grey diaphram, not orange...

You can't get better than a Series 2 RST or any of the '1990 on' Rover (all alloy) intercoolers. The latter are of course open to modifying so the pipes are exactly where you want them...

A properly rebuilt std box will be fine - and will do more road miles than a helical. Stick with it to keep costs down - you can always upgrade in the future...

I use a minispares 2core side mounted rad, which is great on the road or strip but in a RR bay on a hot day, is woefully inadequate!!!

I have pics of my Escort S2 intercooler at work - i'll host and post tomoz....

455bhp per ton

I am very impressed with my intercooler, on the rolling road, my car did not see air take temps above 31 degress C. And while going around Combe, it was never above 25 degress. It is a bit large, but is also quite thin.
