hey guys and gals, im in need of a bit of help, not much change there, but for once, my usual list of people and the internet have let me down, so i turn to you knowledgeable lot in the hope that one of you will have the info i need...
Im messing around at the moment, (well actually i have been for over a year, but i only do a few mins here and there in fits of enthusiam!) building a k headed engine, i decided to take the somewhat unconventional route of doing it myself rather than buying one of the conversion kits available.....
the reasons for this were twofold.....
firstly im bloody tight, like ridiculously so, never used to be, but two mortgages and too many toys mean that disposable income is seriously reduced!!
secondly i like a challenge, im also lucky enough to have access to nearly all of the kit needed to do the job, but have relatively little knowledge (imo) it seem like a good way to learn how all things engineering work.........
anway, i digress..... i have used saxo vts pulleys for the conversion as they were about the right size, and were vernier as standard meaning they were cheap, (see point 1) but i slightly overlooked the idea of finding a belt. I naively thought that most automotive stuff used one of two profiles and therefore, it would be very easy to just go to my belt supplier and get a belt the right length.
However, it turns out that citreon/pug decided to use a imperial belt with a round tooth (metric profile) and therefore normal industrial belt suppliers are out of there depth (they can get a belt to fit no probs, but it will have square tooth profile, not round tooth, therefore will not fit the pulleys 100%).... i know a couple of other citreon engines that use the same belt profiles, but short of buying one of each for every engine im at a bit of a loss as to how to find a belt that will work. Ive spoken to my local autofactors who are very helpfull, but no longer have a paper copy of a cambelt book and only have it on computer, requiring a huge input of time to find what i need which they are understandably unwilling to do........
What im hoping is that someone may have a old paper book and either be willing to lend it to me, or have a little looksee if there is anything close to the right length........
the only other option i have is to remake my adaptors to accept a industrial pulley, which will work fine for sure, but will need me to redo a lot of my work thus far.....
cheers for your help, ill chuck the belt length up tomorrow at work at some point (engine is there not here) in case anyone can help.....
Pete
And on the 7th day........... God created turbochargers!
