Okay, this is geared towards mainly you racers, but anyone who's towing a mini, feel free to answer. What are you using to tow your mini around? And do you feel it's doing everything you need it to? I'm looking into buying a car to tow my soon to be running 1963 mini to some races, and would like some sort of idea of how large a vehicle I need to do this. Suggestions? Comments?

I use my work car, so fuel is free!
Distances travelled are probably similar to what you will encounter in the US. The car is a Holden Commodore - basically a 3.8L V6 Chevy.

Whatever you get, make sure it has cruise control. The drive is much more relaxing with it, as it is harder to maintain a constant speed when towing a trailer.

2003 A4 TDi 130.

No problems towing a mini on an a frame or a suitable trailer. Still does 40+ MPG with the car on the back.

As you are in the USA my tow car will not be any help to you. I tow with a Citroen Xsara HDI. Tows a treat and returns about 37mpg with the trailer. I also uses the wife's Saab 95 Aero, which tows much better, but uses much more fuel.

Me too. E39 530D I'm just quite pleased with it... Lots of small stuff all the time.

Everything with 4 cylinders for towing is infact downright gay.

that's because you have an imported one that has done about 100000 more mileage than what you think Vegard *tongue*

Also Vegard, when have you really used yours to tow a mini? you always end up with your fathers old Vito....*smiley*

Subaru Foresters are popular in the US and good for towing.

off topic but IMO the E39 is one of the best cars ever made, you see loads with big milage. Same the new version isn't as well built.

I run a supercharger and I don't care the TB is on the wrong side.

Ah, don't forget you live in the land of lawyers and V8's.... So these piffly little cars that folks will tell you about from the other side of the pond won't be of any use as the attitude over here is that you need a F350 dually to think of towing ANYTHING...

First step is to look at your trailer weight, and your mini weight. Then establish if the trailer is braked (electric or surge). If it is un-braked, you might want to put e-brakes on it for safety...

I have a subaru legacy spec b. Great car, great for towing. But the US specification is totally different. Probably still a great car though. Only 22mph towing though,

F350? I doubt that. I've towed 4x4's with an F150 before at this altitude, and I grew up in Lake George Turbo Dave, before you say it's because I live in Pueblo. I do think atleast straight 6 or v6 is needed though, just due to hills and passes. Just thought I would see what everyone else is using. I'm thinking about going with a nissan patrol(I mean a 60's model). Slow, yes, but can pull just about anything, I'll just have to leave a little sooner than anyone else.
