as above realy, ive got an old avonbar minimag article that says diesel spec oil gave good results, just wondered if anyone heres used it an what the results were?
ive been told by somone that the chemicals ect in diesel spec oil would react with petrol with bad results, is this the bull it smells like or does the guy have a point. *Confused*

I used to use diesel 15/50 in my mini's in the past. never experienced any negative effects (never took an engine apart though) and stayed clean for ages. one other think I noticed is that the diesel oil ran cooler too???

If something is worth doing, it's worth doing half of.

BTW the oil I used was either cookes premium gold 15/50 (dad used to have loads of hgv's).

Or the heavy machinery 15/50 stuff my cousin used to acquire from the pit he worked at.

If something is worth doing, it's worth doing half of.

I am not convinced that diesel engine oil works in a petrol engine. I have been lead to believe that the detergents used in the oil results in bore wash.

How right this is I am not sure, but until I see hard facts that it does not, I will only use oils specificaly for petrol engines.

So when some joey comes on here about how his 16v turbo vauxhall is great compared to ours, he can be given the 'bird'...

I'm with Colin on this one,

I have heard the detergents are not good for petrols

I have used desial oil in old shitters before and they have died, that may have more to do with the abuse though...

Pretty sure the detergents in a diesel specific oil have few bad effects on a petrol engine UNLESS its an old engine when the oil will flush out all the crap, probably into the bearings, as well as cleaning up the pistons and rings, which will, on the old engine ,make it burn more oil.I use 10/40 semi synthetic diesel oil and change it every 1000 miles. Its been said before but its more important to change the oil frequently than the type of oil, within reason.

i usually run an engine thats new to me on diesel oil for a few changes as its like a slow acting flush, never noticed any bad side effects tbo , but i know thats not a scientific test.

I would of thought diesel oil is okay in most petrol engines, but not so sure about engines that shares its oil with the gearbox.............
All the money we all spend on the engine, perhaps best to get the right oil.
