I used to use diesel 15/50 in my mini's in the past. never experienced any negative effects (never took an engine apart though) and stayed clean for ages. one other think I noticed is that the diesel oil ran cooler too??? If something is worth doing, it's worth doing half of. |

I am not convinced that diesel engine oil works in a petrol engine. I have been lead to believe that the detergents used in the oil results in bore wash.

Pretty sure the detergents in a diesel specific oil have few bad effects on a petrol engine UNLESS its an old engine when the oil will flush out all the crap, probably into the bearings, as well as cleaning up the pistons and rings, which will, on the old engine ,make it burn more oil.I use 10/40 semi synthetic diesel oil and change it every 1000 miles. Its been said before but its more important to change the oil frequently than the type of oil, within reason. |

i usually run an engine thats new to me on diesel oil for a few changes as its like a slow acting flush, never noticed any bad side effects tbo , but i know thats not a scientific test. turbo 16v k-series 11.9@118.9 :)

I would of thought diesel oil is okay in most petrol engines, but not so sure about engines that shares its oil with the gearbox.............

All the money we all spend on the engine, perhaps best to get the right oil. I would agree, especialy when there are oils easily obtainable out there specificaly for these engines On 26th Oct, 2004 TurboDave16v said:
