Force Racing ICT Dept Manager Miglia Turbo Am frum Yokshyer tha noes!

Chaps just looking for some advice on buying a new motor. The Corolla is fooked my uncle (who i bought it from) has bought it back paid off the finance and is getting rid. So im back to sqaure one.

The missus likes either

Honda Civic Type S, not new shape one before
or
Audi A3 2002ish tdi 130bhp.

Anyone got any horror stories with these cars?

Ive been sort of put off jap cars due to silly prices of parts with the trouble i had with the corolla, or i have i just have one off?

Cheers

Mike *wink*

Wifey's Civic 1.6 Exec is fine. Some trouble selecting reverse sometimes as the carpet gets wrapped around the selector rods. Really good car.

Bloke at work had a type R. Gearbox went, but he drove it like he stole it every day.

My A4 tdi 130 is pretty much fault less. Alternator pulley squarks, but it's not going to break. I'm at 116k and all is well.

yes. The a4 is basically a golf or seat leon with a different badge though. you will pay extra for the badge.

The civic should last for ever. A different bloke that I used to work with had a type R. He commuted around 70 miles a day. cost him a fortune in fuel. The A3 should average around 50mpg... Tax should be cheaper too.

I've only ever had to put brake pads on the civic and they where cheaper than the ones for my A4.

Brother had to put 2 rubber dust covers on his ball joints on his gen 5 prelude. They cost £12 each.

Honda wanted 32 quid or something like that for an air filter and oil filter the other week for the CRX. I need to enquire about some front brake disks, but the local autofactors had them for 25 quid the pair.

Personally I'd go for the Audi, a lot of people that buy one then buy another after it, they are good cars. You can also get the proper dealer workshop manuals off ebay for not much meaning any job aside from the computer plug in stuff is more or less doable at home. Parts in general are easy to get and not horrendous. I'm on my 2nd one now.

I'm on my 3rd audi and have all the manuals etc on DVD if anybody wants a copy. Also have the haines book of lies.

VAG COM and a ten quid OBD cable sorts out the ecu stuff.

Had an Audi and if it wasn't for the space in the A4 vs space in the V70II (my current car) I would have deffinately bought another Audi!
Quality of car is hard to beat in my oppinion (I also had a 1.9TDI and it has never failed me).
A3 also has a good suspension.

Both are good options but i'd personally go for the Audi - long term parts will be much cheaper and easier to get hold of.

Not quite AP, the A4 is totally different to the golf, it's the A3/S3/TT/octavia/golf/Leon that share the same platform, the A4 shares it's platform with the passat and skoda superb.

I'd definately go with the audi from those two options, but like most who've said that, I'm biased.

Also, don't worry about mileage too much, my folks both drive 1.9tdi's which are both well over 220k. my 1.8T A3 is on 192k, and still reliably producing 230bhp+

A4 was a typo. meant A3, but couldn't be bothered to change it.
