I know that chap who died on this bike, he crashed late at night on a back road and wasnt found until the morning after.

This bike was part if his estate that his widow auctioned off earlier this year (I bought his tool box and a 2 post ramp) but the bike never sold, and was apparently weighed in as scrap

I was quite surprised to see this on ebay, and dont really feel comfortable about it.

How would you feel riding or driving something that someone had died on or in?

It's never very nice to see things like that, but the majority of accident damaged vehicles that are repaired/broken have invloved some sort of injuries to it's previous owner.

leeds/wakefield.

Joe, you'll but his tool box but not his bike, lol,

also a bit harsh suggesting he died on his bike, from what i can gather about bike accidents the riders rarely suffer any injuries on there bikes , its the road or wall that they land on that's the place they die,

Sadly I'd guess the majority of people who buy bike engines to go in something else are probably buying something that either seriously injured or aided in the demise of the previous owner.

Carl is right. I saw a bloke come of his bike going too fast into a roundabout. It was the landing that killed him.

im just being soft as i knew the bloke, but still..

Also, will this have been through the insurance? Will it have been written off? How does it all work when the owner actually dies? if no one has claimed, then what happens?

If someone were to buy it, repair it, I wonder what they would have to do to get it legit if anything?

It would only be a 'write of' if an insurance claim was made for it. If it was just taken home and then sold on with the rest of the estate then it would just be case of fixing it and getting it MOTed etc.

so, going slightly off topic, if you were to say look for cars/bikes that people have died on, then you dont have to go through the rigmorol of class a, b, c, d etc?

isnt that a bit of a loop hole?

And if i were to say buy this, do a dodgy repair (bear in mind there are no MOTs over here) I could put it straight back on the road and sell it with no crash history?

This is true of any car, bike milk float, etc. If it is not reported and then repaired there is no record of, even if it should have been written off.

I live in a house where the woman that built it was found dead in the kitchen, we bought it after that, house is fine. Also when one of my mother in laws friends died I got a nice pair of walking boots, literally walking in dead mans shoes!

Put the dieing bit to one side Joey. If a car/bike is damaged and an insurance claim is not made then the damage will never be recorded on the cars history.

For example, if I drove my car into a wall and just took it to a garage and had it repaired then that would be unrecorded. If I claimed on my insurance and they deemed it uneconomical to repair then it would be recorded on the cars history as a cat c/d write of. Nothing stopping me buying the car from the insurance company and repairing it. Cat C would need to be inspected by the DVLA before I could get the log book back for it. If the insurance company just had the car repaired, then that would also be unrecorded. Obviously if the car was badly damaged then it would be a cat a/b and it would not be able to go back on the road.

Not a loophole as such. I don't think there is a rule that says you must report all accident damage to your insurance for assesment. Obviously the garage would turn the car away if it wasn't safe to be repaired, assuming they are reputable.

That's why I don't like motorbikes. The speed must be fantastic, but you are far too vulnerable.

I see, doesnt seem right in my head somehow, but cant figure out why yet.

I think thats what draws me to it a bit, over the sloc and up the mountain in the summer, the only thing i can compare it to is when they go pod racing in that starwars film, its scarily good

Id get a bike if it wasnt for other traffic.
If im going to crash something and get hurt id rather it be my own fault.

I would be interested to see the statistic that shows how bikers buy the farm, or get injured. Is it the bikers fault or are other vehicles involved?

to be honest, over here id say 50:50, too many lunatic bikers with a death wish

however somewhere like london, ive personally seen bikers/cyclists being knocked off, and people pulling out of junctions infront of bikes at junctions

ive even seen people in jams on motorways see a biker in theyre mirrors, a quickly pull over the white line to stop the biker squeezing through, it dont understand the bitterness or the point in it?

I cycle loads in Bristol and have had quite a few close calls, people just pull out on you. I had someone look at me, then pull out the other day and it really pisses me off. The stupidity and ignorance of drivers can be unbelievable. Some cyclists do act like pricks though.

I crawl up and down the M1 for work everyday. I regularly see bikes been driven at 40+mph through craling/stationary traffic. Some of the bikers think they are indestructable.

There's one bloke who works at our place who I've come inches from hitting three times now, all because he's impatient and has to weave in and out of traffic with out checking his mirrors/blind spot.
