Do any of you guys use any sort of turbo timer systems?

Im allways forgetting to let my car idle for a while before shut down. I first toyed with creating my own basic timer - but for 100 quid you can pick up a top of the range one which does everything from digital boost to stopwatch.

Any info on wiring, particular makes or models and anything else helpful would be great!

its american but the postage here is reasonable. They've got some good little electronic kits.

i will have a turbo timer rigged upto my ignition when they conversion is done, i bought mine from ebay, great little timer as i have tried it out in my mates nissan 200, i paid around ?25 for it, bargain i reckon, although if you have the time it is very easy to build the circuit your self, the main part of the circuuit can be bought from radio spares or Maplins

Yea, i got one, but its switched off at the moment, its doing something weird.....
It reaches its 60 Seconds, switches off (I can hear the relay click) and the back on ! - its like the altenator is sending charge AFTER the key is shut off......

i got a turbo timer for free. its just a delay off timer from a company called Nortonics. it should be around ?30but as i'm in charge of the stores for an air conditioning company we seem to get through a few.

Can you get more for free?

about a tenner. not a lot really!!

but can you hook one of these up to a car without a computer? i dont know much about electronics but i thought the turbo timer would link up with the cars computer. If not where would it connect to on a standard mini's wiring harness?

i worked on a mr2 turbo at work the other week and his turbo timer was faulty and wouldnt shut the engine down, i had to stall it to turn it off

is this just extra electronics, wiring or more things to go wrong that isnt needed?

no longer a series, but still 1.3 turbo.

good things when installed good...wish my old r5 had one! but i usually wait before turning any engine off

my mates scooby had a mint one!!! would check for the windows and system was off before shutting down somehow! we were at car cruise and he walked off leaving windows down and system on with timer set then it bleeped and locked up!!! he also had on alarm for warm up in the morning! pressed alarm and it would start engine and warm it up!

hehe, warm up would be cool on a mini, except how would it adjust the choke lol

servo on the wire or something? out possible!!!

some electronic kid could sort it!

so how long should you let the car run on to cool the turbo down?

im thinking of plumbing up a leccy water pump to only come on for say 1 minuite after the engine is off to cool the T2 down. differnt topic though! lol

I was thinking that would be a good idea too,

I was planning on having a lecy pump and fan on a timer set for about a minuite after the water temp drops below what the fan switch is set to if that makes sense.

I have a manual fan switch on the midget and if I leave that on for 5 minutes after shut down it pulls the water temp down.I guess by cooling the rad water and setting up a thermo syphon effect.I plan to put a timer on this switch-easier than an electric water pump!

The idea is, you can have two time settings by choosing the capacitors, C1 & C2 to build it with and selecting either with a switch.

Then when you park up, you hold the start button for say 2 or 3 secs, then switch off the ignition, and it keeps the engine running for the set time

Not quite the finesse of a proper one, but should do the job

Turbo timers are only really neaded if you stop after you have been leathering it and the turbo is red hot.

The slow bit at the end of most journeys is enough to cool the turbo.

True but... with electrical waterpumps you could leave them running for an extra minute to avoid damage.

Shouldn't be a problem with day to day use but it wouldn't hurt me thinks
