the trick is to countersink the backplate and use countersunk allen (socket) head screws.

hi guys, i know this is an old post but im just fitting my dupplex, and has encounterd a problem also. i can get the big sprocket on the cam, its tight but it goes on, last bit i might need to tap it in.

bu the sprocket that goes on the crank that is bloddy tight... will need to use a big hammer to get it in. is this normal? my stock one goes in fine. oh and if i put the sprocket the wrong way round i get get it in to a certain point.. has this ever happend to anyone?

remove the key with a screw driver and get some emery cloth on the crank and give it a good going over.

do the same to the inside of the cam gear too.

We just used a small file (attached to Benross' hand) when we put the vans engine together.

Often it is just the corners of the keyway in the sprockets - a small burr gets raised when the keyway is broached - so a small file on those two corners often helps.

The other thing that can happen is the key itself moves in a rocking motion as the sprocket is being pushed on so the far end (the end you can't see) starts to rise out of the groove and hence makes things go tight.

Suprisingly so did I, good old steve, I also used 400 grit on the crank as per benross' orders works a treat.
