It is all well and good getting 210 bhp and 200lbft torque out of a Turbo Mini, getting the power to the road is a different matter... There is only so much traction a mini tyre can offer and there is only so much slipping a clutch can take. I currently have the fastest 1/4 mile time for a turbo Mini on road tyres at 13.84 and this was at 13psi and about 145 bhp on 10 year old 10" Yoko A008s with 2 degrees of neg camber.

BHP from a rolling road means squat in truth. Dave has organised a couple of turbo shootouts, this is the only worthwhile exersise as it gives true comparisons. I am sure I can get 230bhp at 20psi on certain rollers in the UK... we call this BHP at the bar!

We race, and an A series cannot sustain this sort of abuse for a 20 minute race unless seriously supported by expensive ignition and acurate boost settings. We are constantly striving to develop systems and parts to make this possible. It ain't cheap nor easy.

The lesson to take from this is... Have as much power as you need or can use, don't chase high boosts or power figures as you can't use it anyway. My car was slower over the 1/4 at 15psi than 13psi due to loss of traction (wheelspin). Failing that, join me at the monthly engine rebuilding workshop at Mushroom Racing HQ!

The boring bloke who runs this place.

Berkshire

I agree. but surely if you're racing you could use really wide slicks?

Anyway, mushroom racing is an awesome name for a company. *happy*

but due to the weight of a mini, even 100bhp is fairly nippy and will almost certainly give most things on the road a good challenge. no matter what kinda of car it is the limit for front wheel drive cars is only around 200bhp, as said in the first post anything more and all you will be getting is wheel spin.

Sticking Turbo... NA is for wimps!

I do indeed usr slicks, I realise I am in the minority and based my thread that most of you guys are on roadies.

Mushroom Racing is not a company name though, we are just a race team and I can assure you, with my record, I have only sold one turbo engine and that was in a Clubmas Estate.

oh and i Agree with mike hence im going for 120 bhp on yoko as anymore would be wasted on my driving talants hence the t2 with less lag *smiley*

i am tempted by the T2 option aswell, although i will run the t3 for a while seeing as i have spent a fair bit on it and would like to see the results. definatly try the T2 one day, i like the idea of reduced lag
