I was wondering where everyone has put their wideband in the exhaust? I need to weld on a threaded fitting today and I could do with some pics ideally.

I am guessing it would be best to go on the Y collector section at the end of the LCB to get an average across all the cylinders.

Any help would be good

You are correct Mike. Just make sure you weld the fitting on so that the probe will clear the floor of the car etc.

If something is worth doing, it's worth doing half of.

Yes, but also make sure it isn't at too low an angle, they mustn't be allowed to collect water/condensation.

There is a lot of info on the Innovate, Techedge and Bosch websites about optimum positioning heightwise and temperatures but, for a single probe, as Andy says, it has to be after the join.

I've just welded my boss to the elbow just after the turbo.

This has got me thinking now. Should I move it further down the system?

Cheers robert.....and everyone else. Mines SC so using an LCB but that give me a good idea of where to mount it.

Got the engine in the car this evening and on the bottom mounts, just need to put a tie bar on and put the Y piece on the manifold.

I only just relised I did not need to rush getting the postion of the wideband sorted as I can weld it at home. For some reason I had it in my head I needed to take it to work and TIG weld it. BUT it just plain old mild steel anyway so I will just MIG it on there.

try mount it as vertical as you can, they REALLY dont like moisture/condensation pooling in them overnight :) even once heat up through a few cycles they never seem to fully recover.

turbo 16v k-series 11.9@118.9 :)

It'll be fine, mine has been there for the past 3 years with no problems. *wink*

I think I could get one good reading from that setup*happy*

millions of sensors and controllers probably cost more than my engine build

Pardon my ignorance, but did you weld the boss to the cast iron elbow ?

I was planning to put it in the down pipe from the elbow, as close as I could manage.

Here is one of the documents I mentioned earlier.

http://wbo2.com/lsu/lsuinstal.pdf

Specifically page 2, section 4.

I'll find the links to the Innovate and Bosch ones later but they basically say the same.

So although lots of you do mount them real close to the turbo, it isn't recommended (for a wideband sensor).

My elbow isn't cast and I'm pretty certain that Mattys isn't as well.
