Well, got a letter in the post this morning stating that I have not renewed my car tax and are being charged £40 for early payment and £80 for late payment.
DVLA are correct, but they have not sent a reminder as they normally do, the letter also states this cannot be used as an excuse. I have never in 20 years not paid my tax on time.
ANy ideas how i can get out of paying, just seems like another one of the governments way of penalising the motorist along with everything else.

Claim asylum? This would entitle you also to £30k pa benefits and they would throw in Walsall as well for you lol!!!

Welcome to the SORN trap. :/

You could try immediately SORN'ing the car or paying the road tax through the web site and then sending proof that you've either SORN'd or paid the tax to the local DVLA office and appeal. Explain that you didn't receive a reminder and explain the situation.

I think it stinks that they cannot be relied on to deliver reminders any more - sometimes they do, sometimes they don't. They'll say the reminder is no excuse but if you want to you can tie them up for a few months as each time you appeal and escalate they have to add on time.

I had this some years back i i wrote to them stating DIDNT you recieve my SORN notification i sent to you. ?

iam now sending you the SORN notification AGAIN!!! by recorded delivery because you misplaced the original one. i got away with it

dont be tempted to part with the cash as its a kind of threat ... if you dont pay it doubles.
