Hi guys and girl may I wish you all a New Year fist of all.

I've come across a comment on MiniMania's website in the states that?s saying Omega is stopping production of the A-Series piston range, can anyone confirm this??

And what?s going to be the alternative for 73.5mm and forged turbo pistons.

Cheers
Karl.

JE pistons look like a good alternative to me.

Buy a few spare sets of rings and wait until they start going cheap because rings aren't available.

Bugger off, I'm getting there.

As I understand, the MiniSpares 'MEGA' ringsets are identical to the omega ringsets...

I heard an identical rumour around 3/4 years ago - but it never happened... Funnily enough, it was on the minispares site that I heard the rumour - Minispares were telling everyone about their own new range of pistons at the same time incidentally*wink*.
I really can't see WHY they'd stop making them however - look at the evidence. They're already set up for making them, don't suffer from many quality issues, and have an excellent market share...

They have got a strange deal going with Steve whitton of med. Supposedly he's the only source for mini stuff for omega and that was from the horses mouth at omega. I said i wouldn't deal with him as i find him a tw*t, but no good.

Minispares rings fit the omegas

Ive been looking at having some pistons made special and not just from the likes of je or accralyte etc etc. Would need some orders to get it of the ground. these woulds be made by formula 1 engine builder. interested ??

im looking at a set of JE's i reckon. 18cc should be good for me. what would be the advantages of "F1" built pistons?
I would be interested if the price/quality etc is right.

Shouldn't really be any major big advantage in pistons made by F1 Engine maker(i just happen to get on with the guy responsible for piston manufacture there). But the guys from these manufacturers should really know what they are doing when it comes to piston design. Also they have bang upto date information on materials etc. So the end result should be a piston thats the muts nuts for us.

My plan is for a dedicated piston for our use and not some modified blank. The forging will be made to suit our requirements.

I think the price would end up being around the same as omegas forged items, but maybe less, i'm trying !!! lol. I'm not saying omegas aren't good, i have one out of a 97 F1 yamaha engine as a paper weight in front of me, that was good for 17k rpm !!

Basically im just trying to ensure a supply of excellent quality pistons that have been designed with large cc chambers in mind for our use from a really good manufacturer who is happy to make smaller batches.

Ideally i wanted to get cast pistons but the minimum order i need for this is 500 pistons and thats a hell of a lot of cash to shell out !!!

Mirage is right.MED are making it extremely hard for anyone to get Omega pistons. We have been on the phone to omega loads in the past few weeks to get this whole thing sorted.
Like many other companys we are now in the process of getting pistons made. Sizes are going to be something like...+20 and +40 @10 or 16cc with offset dish. 73.5mm at 7cc. These sizes may change. We are not going any deeper than 16cc dish due to past experience. They will made for the A+ blocks so there will be no need to take the 0.030" of the top of the block. There will also be enough material under the bowl to allow for more dish if needed.

Just got some fantastic +020 pistons from OAP. Not cheap (get what u pay 4). Short crown height. Dial in comp ratio u want with deck height. They weigh 290g with rings and pin *happy*.
Ring Oz (01342 844566).
I bet he'll be miserable *frown*

Short crown height?? Then we're back to the squish-question. Obviously, a piston with a proper deck height and bigger dish would be better.
I would NEVER build an engine where the piston doesn't get to the top of the bore..

I would NEVER be bothered about squish on a forced induction engine.
Squish is only important on a 2 stroke anyway!!!

The new forged omega is a direct copy of the JE piston,
Ive noticed he's now selling off all the old skool design Forged omegas @ ?395 all in price!
Sounds like a desperate man to me?

If MED were not such arses about suppliying traders with Omega pistons there would never have been this "Flood" of new pistons to choose from,
And he could have been counting his cash!

But Now there are companys sorting out alternatives all over the place, So that has gotta hit Omega sales, Im selling approx 2 sets a week of JE pistons.

You now have to choose from Omega, J.E, Cosworth (i hear are making again?) And Accralite (Available from OAP)

I dare somebody to call MED for a price on a set of 15cc forged Omegas and then when he gives you the price say "Morspeed have them in stock and ?10 cheaper" *laughing**laughing* I would just love to know what he would say!!!

We would agree with Simon from Morspeed,
at the comments about MED's attitude I had better not type my thoughts. When we contacted Omega and told them the situation they also couldn't care less so there we have it, now lots to choose from. Great
