what type of dump valve do people recommend? im sure i have read somewhere that a piston type is not the correct one to use for the a series but i have seen several in action and work well.

Your are correct, there are problems with the piston ones.

They work ok for a while, then start to give problems


Speak to Bailey. They will tell you that their piston dumpe valves are not suitable for use on Metro Turbos (or Renault 5's).
The fuel vapours cause the seals to perish and the dump valves to seize (normally open).
Avonbar suggested that they had bailey manufacturing them a version that was suitable. When a mate of mine then asked Bailey, it was the first they had heard of it!!!

Use a normal diaphragm one. perferably with a kevlar diaphragm.

Cheaper too

Too many projects!

haha, that doesnt suprise me in the least that avonbar would make up something like that, i had the same happen to me over the cylinder heads that they supply which come from longman..except longman told me they arent supplying avonbar with their heads *angry*
