I was just looking into how much work goes into doing this.
I know a few of you guys have done it....Any pics? What's the best path for the rod to take? Where can i get cv joints for this?

A few questions i know but any help would be great.

Cheers

Herefordshire

you can use the bendy joint things from socket sets to great affect on this and there alot cheaper to buy than the joints

dont you have to solid mount your engine to stop it pulling itself out of gear, or make the changer so it can slide on its mounts?

solid mount the engine or rubber mount the rod change and fit a solid stabiliser so it moves with the engine.

im going to try some socket joints, but with a twist, will see if they work first *wink*

3/8" socket set ones.

Do have a really good read of my mistake. I mounted mine inside. I got rid of the stability rod which I though was unnecessary as I bolted it well and truly to the floor. The engine had virtually no movement, but was enough to sod it up. It was a nightmare. Also, if you cut down your gearstick and reweld, it doesn't like it as high sulphur steel (gearsticks) don't do welding. Having your stick snap when you can't get it in 3rd is a very irritating experience.

I am going to use both of my rods. In future and machine my own gearstick up.

Bugger off, I'm getting there.

Thats great. Gonna try and source some joints this weekend. I could still do with a pic or 2 tho.
My engine is going to have std rubber mounts with 3 very stiff engine steadys. Will it still pull itself out of gear??

you dont want any movement at all really.

just think how little the actual selector rod travels and you understand why it doesnt like movement *smiley*

It'll only pull out of gear if the lever is stiff enough to give resistance... If you don't mind the lever moving a little, then I'd have thought it'd be ok?

Mine had virtually no movement new mounts, steadies, etc, etc and still managed to move. It was irritating beyond belief. The sort of thing that could give you a nervous breakdown. I used a bracket which was U shaped and bolted through the sleeve which goes right through the selector. When it was badly adjusted, there was enough play in that bush to bugger things up. I really solidly mounted it as well. I used the existing "UJ" (if you can call it that) and as I wasn't using a serious angle, just the one. In hindsight, the angle which was there was possibly enough to make it behave like a pain.

I'm going 2 rods next time. No more tears.

Bugger off, I'm getting there.

Can anyone tell me why they want to bolt the minging ali box into there car ? I can see you will save the weight of the rod.

Why not make a nice new rose jointed gear selector ?????

From the uk distributors same place as tweeks buy them.

I sell them for ?25 when i do a batch. When i sell them i hand build into the supply leads a little circuit to lower the voltage as they are rated 9v not 12v (pops the leds slowly) and diode to prevent damage from reverse conection. so i think thats fair. Not sure if the tweeks one comes modified or not.

?48 in tweeks i think

You guys ever buying serious stuff, drop me a line as i have pretty good supplies of stuff.

this year i should become agent for

Piper cams
bailey
green filters
minilite
burlen fuel sys

cant really help on a lot of dedicated mini stuff and its a F**ked up market with stupid distributors and stupid margins on stuff so i just dont bother.

Price wise i'll always try to beat the regular suppliers (else why buy from me), if we get some group buys then even better for me and YOU.

I am best able to supply more motor sport related gear than standard mini stuff. I've tried to deal with some mini suppliers but its such a closed little club. I've had argument after argument with Minispares about my discount level, its pathetic.

Once had a conversation with one guy. went ok we talked supply of engine bits and machining. before he offered me full trade price list etc, he asked for my vat registration number to ensure i'm a valid trader. i dont think he expected me to be real, as when i faxed over a copy of my vat certificate he got bent out of shape and refused to offer me any discount. You can guess how much stuff i bought from him !!!!

If anyone is after a Bailey dump valve let me, could do with selling a few as i have to put in a fair order. If anyones interested PM me
