Supercharger

Hi, I'm building a supercharged mini which will be approx 150 bhp when done, maybe a touch more. I have a laid up policy for one mini, and thought I would enquire about insurance on the project while on the phone to the insurance company (footman james). Basically, they were fine with offering insurance, as i'm 30 with max no claims and clean as a whistle license and claims wise(prob tempting fate by saying that !), the pice being £215 for fully comp, no ltd miles, and inc breakdown, legal, and travel abroad breakdown cover, not bad at all for a megga modified car. But, as I declarecd absolutely everything, so they have no excuse for refusing anything, should I ever need to claim, they got a bit hot under the collar when I said about the proposed bhp figure, and said 125 bhp for a mini was the max they would insure to. So the question is what companies do people with big bhp turbo/supercharged motors use. Or do they not declare the full limits of the power of the engine. And what sort of prices and levels of cover are offered ?.

The Metro van with all mods declared and around 150bhp (being optomistic lol) is around £300 with track day and break down etc. THat's on 5000 miles, policy in John's name, full no claims and me as a named driver. ThaT WAS WITH aDIAN flUX/hic (SAME FIRM)

As Andy says, Flux/HIC for the van is £320 for me, fully comp + business use, aged 41, live near Bath, Agreed Value £10k, limited to 4000 miles, every single mod declared - but certainly never any limit placed by the company on max power.

The fact you've been limited by FJ surprises me. I'd see if they could remove the restriction if I were you, before going somewhere else for a quote.

Richard.

Minivanless, but reluctantly happy living with the decision. There'll be another one day.

how will they know its got 150bhp? if you crash are they gonna rolling road it to see and then on which rolling road as no 2 are the same. lol (unless you go to a mag tolling road shoot out)

im with HIC about £200 and something quid. toyota starlet turbo engine fitted, limited milage, 135bhp all mods declared and in liverpool (which really doesnt help)

no longer a series, but still 1.3 turbo.

footman james refused to insure me and kean before when we told them estimated power figures. looks like they're not as much of a specialist as they make out.

flux/hic are about the best bet.
