Car started to make abit of a rattle(worse when clutch engaged). After stripping it down the idler is a loose fit in the transfer housing and gearbox (was tight when fitted) would this be the problem?

I have a spare engine so will swap the bits over into the gearbox and use that transfer housing.

They do tend to spin sometimes. Thay should be fitted with a little loctite bearing fit

Paul

I seriously doubt it!

How loose is it? If Loctite will fill the gap you might be OK.
Mine spun and wore but is OK with Loctite

I seriously doubt it!

OT- Ive just pulled my engine apart and my idler has worn the gearbox casing

If I put one of the roller bearing types in does it stop me having to worry about wearing the gearbox casing in future?

I presume you mean the thrust face has worn Nic?

essentially yes, with the roller bearing, the box just holds the bearing shaft in place, so wont wear as long as the loctite holds.

I've decided on this as well.. The brand new one from Minispares looks very promising.

I bought this a while back, and is now going to fit it.

Has anyone done them? The shaft seems to be a very snug fit in the casing, I guess it has to be.

A matter of heating the casing and freezing the shaft?

I have been using the med set for a few years, they came in a Minispares box. I changed the bearing last year but haven't had any problems.

Did you have any difficulties fitting it? Any tips?

I just warmed the casing and box with a hot air gun and then pressed them in.
