my turbo has been recently rebuilt asfar as im aware. no play in it at all, all tight like a tiger.

but if it still smoking after my fresh engine is all rebuilt then what options have i got for turbos

ive heard oneeyedlizard always say get a modern turbo and others say get away from t3's

so what? gt17? t25? t2? whats best for reliabilty and lower cost ha
i guess with a smaller turbo you get less lag but lower torque?

t3s are ok if you want mpg and dont mind...... ..... lag....... lol

gt17s are hard to find for less than $$$$ in non FUBAR condition.
due to this im currently building a 160ish engine with a t25, but wether its the best turbo for the job is open to opinion

I bet my first wank came quicker than your first mini turbo

These new modern turbos with their quick spool up time, would make the competition harder.

when does it smoke?
idle? when driving?

if on idle, park it on a steep hill, or jack the front up as high as poss, and if it stop's then high chance says its the guides....

i havnt actually ran the engine since the engine rebuild as i think it was the rings that were gone. the head i had done before the engine but it was smoking before the head was done. headgasked went but still smoking after.

even though i had my head done abot 2 montsh and 50 miles before the engine was done i think steve still replaced the guides to be safe

so to be honest im yet to try it with the rebuild head and turbo all together. jsut putting this post out so i know my options as soon as the turbo might need a rebuild (changing)

New builds do tend to smoke a little anyway.

My Benross head is covered in wax to stop it rusting and will smoke a bit when new.
