all gone down hill with me dads 1998 rover 600 diesel, problem is with the engine off brake pedal feels good nice and hard as you would expect, start the engine the pedal goes down a little, now if you sit with your foot on the pedal it drops right to the floor, we have just bled the system and fitted a new master cylinder and still have the same problem, just cant get me head around it any help much appreciated (its got ABS to if that makes much of a difference)

Sounds like a problem with the brake booster or vacuum pump

The pedal should go to the floor as when you start the engine. That is how you test the servo.

repeatedly press the brake with the engine off to consume any vacuum that is stored, then depress the pedal and start the engine, the pedal should travel towards the floor.

So when some joey comes on here about how his 16v turbo vauxhall is great compared to ours, he can be given the 'bird'...

filling the servo with brake fluid? master cylinder failure or an abs fault. if you can be arsed bypass the abs pump with straight through fittings to rule it out. but i would be tempted to try a new master cylidner, or even just a scrappy one to rule tha tout.

turbo 16v k-series 11.9@118.9 :)

as a say we spent last night fitting a new master cylinder and its still the same servo works fine or as it should but if you keep your foot on the brakes it goes right to the floor no leaks any where and has had a good bleeding.
