Hey guys,

sorry if this topic has been covered but could find anything under search.

Once ive finished welding what should i use to seal/coat the weld? in the past ive just used red oxide paint is this suitable or this there an alternative method?

depends what joint it is,

if its an overlapped joint like on a floor pan I use a lad of seam sealer

http://www.frost.co.uk/item_Detail.asp?pro...%281%20litre%29

if its somthing like the joint between the front wing and scuttle or front pannel, or a visible but weld I lead them,

stuff like the seams on the door pillars I use a rust proof paint, same for a non visible butt weld,

I give every thing a good coat of zink primer, then seam seale the joints that are going to/could get wet (like the roof gutters, floors etc etc). Probably worth doing it to the bulkhead box in and out

btw seam sealer can be a bit messy, it may be worth getting it in a tube...

Yep I find it much easier with the tube as it doesn't get everywhere!

I guess I'll be masking my roof etc up then.

Should be OK sitting the tin in a bucket of warm water for half an hour before I use it...

If the car is stripped, you could try fitting the box from the inside the car. Then from the engine bay side, weld the box corner to corner. Might look neater too rather than those big flanges on show.

If it's anything like my welding, then it's nothing an angle grinder can't sort out *wink*
