I hate this job. You shoud try doing it on a 998 block, the clamp barely fits between the joint and the block.
Fastest 998 mini in the world? 13.05 1/4 mile 106mph

Make sure you have the clamp the right way up, the hole is bigger on one side.

i find light pressure from a jack beneath the downpipe holds it up against the outlet while tightening , use exhaust paste on sealing faces and in the groove around the clamp as it holds it in place once dry, and use the steady bracket to the 'box to avoid the joint being moved while in use , another general tip is weld the bolts in one side of the clamp so you dont need a spanner on one end |
