He's right though.

Some of the current regulars are like guard dogs, quick to bite the leg of any intruder, particularly if they post in the for-sale section first.

Maybe that's the only way to keep the riff-raff out *happy*

I agree with you Paul, and to be honest I'd go further than that and say that some members are down right out of order to new members at times. Its really not on and I will be having words with people about this from now on.

as long as this place dont end up like tmf. i swear that place needs to be more strick on newbies so many useless posts over there that can easily be answered if the mods just said use the bloody search bar.

i like that its frank, means the kids stay away.

although i dont really post that much as i dont know as much as some on here so i just mainly read and search.....plus i'm scared of the real brainiacs lol *tongue*

We are at almost 8000 members, thats about 1500 more than minifinity. We are getting to be quite a big forum.

However I wonder how many of those 8000 members are 1 posters or 0 posters who never log on.

There are three types of people that get problems. Firstly the poeple that come here with a level of knowledge and spout the gospel according to TMF (etc). Some of these people turn out to be very useful and fit in after a difficult start. Some give up and never come back. The other type are those that join and on their first post try to sell loads of stuff. Rightly so we are suspicious and they get a hard time. The third type are the non searchers.

I do think that sometimes we can be a bit hard on people. Sometimes justified, sometimes not. I guess it is upto the mods to uses their descresion and decide when it has gone too far. And I have to say that in general it works.

I must say in my opinion the people that get grilled on this forum do deserve it. Those with an attitude problem certainly get put back in their box.

Looking at that gearbox thread on tmf made me realise just why I don't need to look on other forums. There were people asking all sorts of crap that a simple search would have turned up

I don't think anything does need changing about members conduct. Again the moderators do a good job if something is taken too far

You started off on the right footing, did the research first with the search button, then asked sensible questions - simple.

As Ben says, it ether the sellers of crap or the know-it-alls who get a poor reception.

I think its quite difficult with most forums. I made some stupid comments about a mini part supplier when I first joined that has ties with this forum, luckily I had met some people from here before I joined the forum that had a quiet word with me. Easy mistake...but if I had of been a complete stranger, I would of had my arse torn apart!
Should give the benefit of the doubt with new members.

PS...if theres a problem, inform the mods rather than abusing them. *happy*

I think the ave age on here is probably a lot higher than most forums, as we all get older we take less shite.
The other big difference most people talk from a stand point of thinking about something in detail and then trying it, or from trying it in the first place.

As observations the average cost of a "build" I would guess at being higher than most.

TM has a monopoly on Turbo knowledge.

There is a TM way of doing things, some of which may reduce the intake of new members?

There is a bias towards serious power and the right way of achieving that, not everyone wants that and a few people wouldn't get into FI if they had that as their only route.

Swearing.

...some seriously funny comments.

oh and a bias to drag.... (Racing)

I use TurboMinis for 3 reasons
1. I've got a turbo mini and wanted to find out about them.
2. The regular posters (you know who you are) are all clever folk who know the pro's and con's of turboing and minis in general
3. This forum is a right laugh!!!

I lads i would still say i am new to this site. And I found this site very welcoming even know i have not got a turbo. I like the way its full of lads who "say what they see" and know what they are on about. I hope to make it to some of the TM meets with my mk1 if i am welcome.

I have started posting on Instagram also my name on there is turbomk1golf

Nothing is impossible it just costs more and takes longer.

I love this site!! not posted much but read allot trough the search button, i would be a lot further away from achieving a turbo mini without the rafts of useful info on hear, big big thanks!

I think the slightly harsh moderation of new blood is a good thing, mainly because when i see a post by some one with close to 3 or 4k posts you can pretty much take there word for fact! as they would have bin chewed up and spat out long ago! The same amount of posts on TMF could still mean you are chatting shit, eg MRA-minis.

and its a bloody good crack!
