I let the side down last year..... I was one of the 17 1970 minis that failed on brakes, due to seized rear quadrants.... should have checked before I went and the first time its failed on this since I have owned the car...

I run a supercharger and I don't care the TB is on the wrong side.

Fascinating...

The earlier ones (say pre '75) do much better than 50% but presumably that's because ones that old are properly looked after.

I had a 63 mini fail. Purely sloppyness on my part. had completly had enough of the car and couldn't be bothered to check it over properly...

My 75 clubman passed though *smiley*

isnt that becuase earlier minis dont have to go through the same checks to be legal as per the year of manufacturing?

i know my 73 mini got though an MOT once with no tower bolts in place...get that haha

it just had a later subframe in it so god knows what was going on there got it on ebay as a project. (i was new to minis back in 05)

w&p got it running as had a few teething issues with the coil overs. which reminds me they never fitted all the bolts on the coilover brackets either well they did like 1 bolt out of 4-6. so it had no tower bolts/twin bolt system or proper support for the front suspension passed an mot and made a L2B run.....i'm pretty impressed haha

Not a lot of differences so far as I'm aware, just things like emissions standards and later safety features (ie, seat belts, reversing lights etc) but the fundamentals of structure, brakes, steering etc. I think are all the same whatever the year.

Look in detail at the spreadsheet and most of the failures are on suspension (which presumably includes ball joints, rear radius arm pins etc.) with brakes a close second...

EDIT, actually lighting and signalling second, brakes third (although very close to lighting) but suspension the most failures by far.

It could be 'cos most of them are relatively new MPi cars with a dodgy V5 ready for export to USofA!

I account for one of the 1990 Minis which failed and one of the 1992 Audi 80s! I never seem to pass an MOT first time.
