Hi all,

I had a search around on the internet last night to see what was out there for Cable/Wire tidying, and i didn't really come accross anything Car specific, so i had a search on the site as well and didn't come accross anything, apologies in advance if there is anything on here.

Basically i have the lump out and i want to tidy up all of the wiring on the Bulkhead, but not using Insulation tape, if anyone else has done this, what have you used ?

i was looking at this; http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...e=STRK:MEWAX:IT

Cheers, Jamie *happy*

Best thing i thought really.

that stuff looks nasty in no time.

On the looms I make from scratch for race / rally cars I usually cover them in heatshrink tubing. But for really busy looms (twin bike engined cars) I usually use loom tape.

Use proper loom tape (from AES, VWP etc)

Fiddly and takes ages but well worth the effort.

I could imagine the one i posted up being total shite and with the heat just becoming a total mess in no time and not lasting long,

Just spotted this one, good enough?

Just doesnt look any different to black Insu tape.

Slightly shinier but more importantly, doesn't have the "glue" on the back that oozes out of insulating tape and makes a sticky mess a few months later.... loom tape clings to itself by another mechanism, not sticky glue....

EDIT - other cheaper suppliers

I use NON-adhesive PVC loom tape. Looks reasonable good and can be cleaned. Adhesve tape will get messy in a short space of time. 'Spiro-wrap' is quick to put on but holds dirt a grease really well, so will always look a bit messy. It is not a flexible as it looks.

I have used the spiral wrap in places where abrasion could be an issue, with heat shrink tubing to seal the ends - works for me.
I concur that it is often not as flexible as you might prefer.

So it sounds a bit like you have over-lapped the spiro-wrap?

Only at the ends, where the bundle of wires emerge - looks a little tidier that way.

I have to admit that the shrink wrap has a hard time where it is applied in my case - low down below the alternator and too close to the oily bits.

Bear in mind I am talking about an inline engine. I was trying to keep all wiring out of sight below the chassis leg or hidden in the angle between the inner wing and bonnet surround, which on my car is about 6"" wide.

OK Ta. How have you found it to keep clean? (Sounds like yours is generally a cleaner car in anyplace)

Have you considered PVC Looming Tape (Non-adhesive)?

Its not as clean as it used to be !!

Loom tape looks more "original" and IIRC still needs the ends sealed or taped down in some way.

My car is so non original that the issue never comes up.

Yeah, I like spiro-wrap because it's quick and it does tidy it up, but I have found that it is very difficult to stop dirt and grease from getting under it and when that happens you hav to take it off to clean it. The PVC Loom tape does look original, but that is not why I go for it. It is fairly easy to clean, but doesn't seal so crap will still get under it, but not as bad as spiro-wrap, it is tidy, non-bulky (I do end up adding a LOT of extra wires so the looms get big enough) and they remain flexible.

Good to exchange with your experiences.

Cheers
