Has anyone every been caught by ones of these, or know of anyone that has? They seem to put the bastard things up everywhere nowadays and they piss me right off, especially on an empty motorway in the early morn/late at night.

Im beggining to doubt that they actually work. *oh well*

there was a chat about these on the radio a few months back asking the same thing; plenty of people phoning in confirming they had been caught

you used to be able to change lanes and be ok.
i once went past one coming back from manchester late at night and never got a speeding ticket, i did slow right down for the 2nd camera though but if i went past the first one at over the limit surely that would have been a instant ticket *oh well*

Thats the thing they are average speed, so you can still do 70mph through one as long as your average speed averages the limit.

On quite a few occasions ive been doing the average speed and people come flying passed, and it always makes me think do they actually work?!

Aren't there situations where these cameras don't work at all? Motor bikes - no number plate on the front to read, changing lanes - because the cameras are paired together, number plates that ANPR can't read - can't think of an example readily but must be some front plates they can't read perhaps because of the angle, or poor lighting.

Not seen too many of them tbh except going down the M1. What annoyed was drivers braking when they noticed the cameras could cause an accident.

King Gaycharger, butt plug dealer, Sheldon Cooper and a BAC but generally a niceish fella if you dont mind a northerner

Rotherham, South Yorkshire

On my way back from Avon last year, my mini packed up and I had to get recovered home. Was chatting with the recovery driver about them.

His flatbed (renault master based) was limited to 60mph. He said he never slows down for the average speed checks and has never had a ticket.

Maybe it's just that they only check for ridiculous breaches. That said 60 on the speedo is probably 58 in the real world. South Yorkshire run 10% + 4mph so for an average 50mph limit that would be 59mph and he would be just OK.

Stoke-on-Trent. Duck.

My brother "was told" it was illegal for "whoever" to follow/monitor you on the cameras or some other twoddle. Any way, he believed it and used to commute through a set of 50mph avg. speed cameras 80mph. Daily. Never got done.

I've since explained whoever fed him the original cock & bull story was talking rubbish and to slow down, but nevertheless, he never got a ticket.

And! I've never really noticed, but how do they work at night given front plates aren't reflective? I know there's often a great pair of 1,000 W lights dazzling you as you approoach the camera, but not always?

They certainly appear to be at every 'construction site' on the main roads... even when no work is being done :/

Front plates are reflective, and SPECS cameras have infra red lights either side or integrated into the camera *Yes*

I carnt find the thread ,it was on another forum but a guy on a motorbike (obviously no front number plate) went through the same set of cameras to and from work at 70-80mph in a 50 and a few weeks later the police were waiting for him on his route, pulled him over to check his details and managed to do him for ALL the offences. got a ban and hefty fine.

Now obviously with a helmet on you carnt see his face but there was enough evidence with a wing mirror missing, individual helmet
and this clothing and bag to covict him.

Only thing I was thinking is can two cam's monitor all three lanes... and if you get blocked by a truck there must be an angle where it cant read the plate, then do they need more that two readings?

Who knows. I just stick to 50... as I can't afford not to have a licence..
