Just been hunting around for a supplier because im so sick of forking out for the crappy disposable ones. i found this place which seems reasonable, not rental fees just a £40 deposit. he quoted me £100 including deposit, full bottle, delivery and collection.
sounds any good?

I get raped by BOC. £50 ish a year for the account and £50 - £60 ish for the bottle. I'll be going later in the week so will have a better idea of the new prices. They've stopped opening at weekends too which just makes my life harder!

Sounds quite expensive to me, for a 15l bottle and only 5 hours (ish) welding, but unless you want to open an account with BOC or Air Products and pay for the privilege its an alternative to disposables, I suppose.

from when i last looked into this, Airproducts were more expensive for the bottle hire but cheaper for refills. BOC were the other way round.

I ended up changing to BOC as i usually get well over a year for each refill.

Cheers Wolfie, ive just been looking over the BOC price list and for an X bottle which i think holds 2300 litres its 55.55 rental/year and 26.15 to fill. considering the X bottle has double the amount of gas compare to the link at the top the BOC is better value, even if you do need to pay rental

Get hold of a cylinder and go to somewhere that can refill it for you.

I got a medium cylinder filled for £12 or something ridiculous in the summer.

The prices came up in a thread a few weeks ago... If you want to use a lot, the BOC Y size cylinders are even more economical
(note they are cylinders, not bottles *happy* ....waits for Paul to respond....)

Twice the capacity but only about 30% more on rental and refill. Obviously there is a break-even point with useage when the higher rental outweighs the cheaper gas but I swapped both my argoshield and pure argon over to Y size during summer 09.

Schrödinger's cat - so which one am I ???

Longy, I have a bottle without rental (wink, wink) and get it refilled by a friendly relation in the motor trade.
Sorry Rod - I have a CYLINDER ......................

Adams gas is only about 10 minutes away from me, so its easy for me to use them as i just collect and deliver myself so save on those charges.

Its only £40 bottle deposit the about £25 a re-fill..

Although the bottles arent massive, there ok if your not welding everday and are a hell of alot better to weld with than the disposable bottles.

The new problem I have with BOC, is that the majority of places local to me that supply welding gas have stopped opening on a Saterday. So I have to find one that stays open until 5pm (a lot close at 4.30) and race back from work either with the cylinder in the car for a 75mile round trip or call home and get to them a few minutes before closing. What happened to customer service...

If I want a bottle at the weekend, I now have to go to Tickhill, half way to Doncaster...
