Hi

I've been out of the mini scene for a while, but am resurrecting my old mini van project. I am going to be fitting a rollcentre miglia cage in the near future (modified/extended cage already ordered)

With mini's what do you guys normally do for the welds on the very top of the cage ? roof off, or drop the cage through the floor? Or do you run the main hoop sufficiently low enough to just about weld round to the top from inside?

Looking through the build threads, (and the lack of pictures of cars with the roof's off) I'm assuming most of you drop the legs through the floor?

Cheers

John

From what I've seen, many people going as far as fitting a full weld in miglia cage seem to go for composite roofs too.

i think it's a case of if you're having a carbon roof it's so simple do just finish the welds with teh roof off, but otherwise, you're left with no choice but to drop it through the floor then box it in really....

Does the cage sit on boxes? If so you tack the cage together and then take out the boxes allowing it to drop 3 inches - this allows you to weld the top joints. That is what was done with mine anyway!

Here's what I did:

Sadly the roof warped slightly what I welded it up again, so I'll probably put a CF skin over the top (regs state that I have to keep the steel roof)

lol. I certainly won't be cutting a letter box in the roof. I don't know about 'Butcher', but it's certainly an effective way of getting the job done !!

I'll see if the cage has boxes on the bottom when it arrives... If not, I'll be going for the holes in the floor option...

Too many projects!
