Mitsi Evo 7, 911, Cossie. & all the chavs ...... won no problem

hotter than an N/A engine but ........ the fuel will cool the inlet charge down somewhat the heat from the exhaust manifold and turbo is the downer, thats why i recommend using the inlet manifold heated takeoff for cooling!

i wonder if anyone has any under bonnet temps ?

What do you mean the charge of the actual casting?

If you mean the casting I'd suggest that it varies in teperature from the throat to the valve, the valve area being hottest. How hot I have no idea, but if you took an average somewhere around the basic engine temperature woule be a fair assumtion.

If you mean charge temperature then depending on setup could be anywhere from 40 to 90 deg C.

i'm just after a rough guide as to how hot the casting gets around the inlet ports? would i be more than 100 deg?

i need to get some of those temp strips!

i ask as i have an old 1275 head with a hole about 2-3mm diameter in the inlet port & was thinking "maybe" big maybe!

somthing like that q-bond adheasive cement may fix it, it can genuinely take 180 deg, i've used it on a motorbike steel tubuler exhaust manifold & it held up fine, never broke or leaked

its funny stuff though cast iron! *surprised*D

although i'd have thought youd get more metal expantion contraction on a steel tubular manifold than cast iron?

what do you chaps reckon? yey or ney?

I've measured temperatures at the spark plug close to 400 degrees C and exhaust gas temperatures at nearly 800 degrees C.

I think that the temperature of the inlet port is heavily influenced by the adjacent exhaust ports and would say that it is likely to go above 180 degrees C.

But if it goes through the IC before, the air is already cooler than the water, aint'it ?

Unless you use a dedicated water circuit for the intake circuit to turn it in a very small chargecooler ?

You'll not mend a head with any kind of epoxy gobbo.

Even welding or brazing isn't always successful.

I've taken some readings, my under bonnet temps range from 0 degrees above ambient to over 50 degrees above ambient depending on where the sensor is.

All measurments where taken at over 60mph

Where is the hole through to? Pushrod holes can be sleeved for e.g.

All you need is a press, a valve guide and a drill...Should be quite cheap *wink*

what about a hammer with a delicate arm? :)

sounds a top idea! i'll do that! press the guide in a drill to a big enough size for the pushrod to mive freely!
or do i drill to a specific diameter
