I'm getting ready to do this soon on my mini(850cc) and was wondering if anyone has done it, and if so what luck they've had with it. If not, I'll keep everyone posted...

Do you need to make a bush or are they available?

I seriously doubt it!

You will need to make the bush I think.

i have a 1275 primary currently with a local firm who are making me an oversize bush to fit a 998, they werent keen on making it fully floating, and so will make it press fit, im not sure what clearances they are giving the crank, but supplied them with a nos 998 front bush so they can compare

ill post a pic once its done

It does not need to be fully floating. A push fit into the gear is how I would do it. Remember that bush is only used when the clutch is disengaged so there is very little load ever going through it.

I only requested they make it fully floating as some people have had issues which the MS floating bush has cured, the way I saw it if I was paying to get one made from scratch, may as well get the best from it.

But the bloke down there said similar to you Ben, and wanted to make it a press fit to the gear, I wasnt overly fussed and tbh just want it done now (its already been sat for 2 months in a friends garage, he said he would do it but, mañana mañana....) as its holding up the engine assembly

Just been down to see him, he hasnt done them as he hasnt had chance to order the stock, hes been looking for the right sized tube to minimise the cost of materials

Bottom line is, if I get one made he can use a spare bit of bar he has lying about, its will be £34

If I get 5 made up, he will do it manually on the lathe and the cost will be £25 plus material

If I get 20+ made up, he will programme his cnc and the cost will be around £15 plus materials

Is anyone else interested?

Any advice you can give me to pass on to my machinist would be appreciated, as he's never worked on an a-series before, being an american and all. I know he can do it, but I would be nice for him to have some info on it.

What's the weight? I can get a give or take figure. Maybe I missed something. Are you doing up the drop gears themselves? If so, what's the price?

just the bush swordy, so you can slot straight into the 1275 primary and use on the small bore, id imagine it would only weigh a 100g or so?

unit cost will roughly be...

material cost - not sure yet, looking at about £6 to £8 per bush, might go down
£25 per bush to machine
then obviously postage on top

so to get an idea of numbers

So in other words I wouldn't have to take it to the machine shop then?

Right, went online to buy the material last night, but they are asking £70 to deliver to me, rang them this morning and asked them to use Parcel force as it will only be about a tenner, but they dont want to know, suggested I get someone to collect and post on, anyone close to:

What's the total we're looking at? Minus post for me, we can figure that out later. I'm interested in getting the bushes.
