Hi people just looking at placing my order from Avonbar for my pistons and camshaft set etc and i came across another set of pistons on there. i was going for the OMEGA +20 with a 10cc dish but i have just seen the forged +20 but with a 14cc dish?

now here is my spec I'm building to and aiming for around 170ponnies? maybe pushing 200 with gas (I'm aloud to dream:-p)

1275 +20 1293cc
Omega +20 10cc
Rebuilt T3 turbo (as a short term thing to see what its like but looking at a modern turbo)
Ported manifold and elbow with wide band sensor
Standard flywheel, (lightened and balanced)
Standard Con rods inc ARP Bolts, (balanced)
Steel Center main strap
Turbo verto clutch setup, (lugs machined down)
Avonbar CAMSHAFT PHASE2 (turbo) kit inc Double valve springs, and followers.
rolling rockers(1.5),
28cc chambers, ported and polished, bigger valves (looking at sizes) but am looking at benross head
Fuel regulator
8mm Fuel lines (both feed and return)
Minispares close ratio SC gearbox with X-pin diff, center pick-up,SC drop gears
cold fusion nitrous kit (wet) + (25bhp shots)
Punto GT Fmic
Avonbar Uprated water pump
Avonbar uprated Oil pump
MegaJolt ignition

now i will be running a dual stage boost controller and running low and high being and high being around 18-20psi? (will the t3 take that?) so would it be best for me to do down the forged 14cc dished pistons rather than the 10cc?

many thanks

The cast 10cc omega's seem to take a lot of punishment. So if budget is a concern stick with them

If you have 14cc pistons you might not need as big chambers in your head either.

You will also want an RTS clutch you you are staying verto. or a good pre-verto setup if not. Standard/Turbo verto will not hold 170bhp

If something is worth doing, it's worth doing half of.

Also 20psi from a T3 may mean you need a hybrid item.

20 psi ,is about 2.4 on the left scale , so easily achievable with a stock t3 ..bhp scale is about 100 to 190 bhp at that boost .

Is this a standard metro T3 robert? With .25 AR exhaust etc?

As someone who lost 2 sets of cast pistons (total cost 400quid+) I would advise really thinking about the forged ones.. add up all that stuff you listed and I'll bet you will find that the extra 200 quid is only a fraction of the total cost.. and you can go do whatever you want without worrying about it.

Did you price out the accralites from Avonbar??

the forged ones where only about 50quid more i think and i will be going down that route as you said its only a small amount to pay for something that could make a big difference

yes most of my parts are coming from avonbar as thats the only place i can find that do the pistons and bits i want

just wondering what are the benefits from having forged pistons?

aside from the larger choices in dish size for us lot, how are they better than a cast piston?

I'm still running povo spec AE cast pistons @ 20psi with no issues other than wear, i'll be having a rebore at some point but can't see the point in spending double the ££ on a set of forged when i can get cast pistons with the dish size i need.

anyone care to enlighten me please?

which part no are they nick ? forged is more elastic ,and denser ,so take more of a beating from shock waves and seem to withstand greater heat .you can run a load of det on a forging without it breaking a land .

I'm running 21253's at the minute dished out to 11cc but i know you can take them to 14cc.

that's some food for thought then in favour of forged. i guess they're main advatage then is being able to tolerate a slightly bad setup?

So long as you don't use the minispares cast pistons, it appears you'll be fine. I don't ever recall anyone breaking the stock metro turbo pistons, even with ridiculous HP

Nick, I have a set of 21253's and am thinking of dishing them out.
Would you be willing to share how you did your set?

Would be greatly appreciated,
