Fitting an intercooler is a good way of releasing a little more power.

If something is worth doing, it's worth doing half of.

You could get the turbo exhaust elbow ported, but be carefull if you are running a standard metro downpipe. We've had loads of trouble getting the metro van's to seal and have ended up putting a standard elbow back on.

you may want to re think your filter, we did a back to back test of every filter on the market, the hks mushroom came out worst by a long shot successfully managing to suck up sand.. i dread to think the shit and cheaper copy will let through

just a heads up

Hi.
This is a very informative post. The MG Metro Turbo is a fine, unknown car. Most people don't know there is a Metro Turbo so they are surprised when the little Metro does the 0-60 in just over 8 seconds and leaves so-called better cars behind, I speak from experience!

just had the chance to check this over again,

OMG its a ball-ache on the metro to get to the dizzy clamp to change my timing!

my metro is running a little un-even anyway so its due for a bit of a check of the timing & idle mixture etc "all" service items & fluids are changed now!

what sort of colour on the plugs should i aim for on the metro turbo, i was thinking just a little darker than the normal sandy colour so i know its combusting the fuel a little cooler, a bit of anti detination protection if you like, correct me if i'm off down the wrong track!

right the filters i have knocking about (i'm not buying one i'm skint)

HKS mushroom copy (i have read a few articles the genuine & copy HKS mushroom are actually crap sap power a little & dont filter too well)

an argos cone filter with the stainless steel mesh (i did'nt buy it it was on a car i owned)

a cheapo plastic cased cone filter that has mesh inside that looks like the same filter material as K&N & is a fake carbon look outer case! this was on my silvia when i bought it!

i've sorted all the bits to fit my 2" from the manifold back twin box sportex exhaust for the metro turbo

picking up engine breather tomorrow 2 for £10 to help the engine breath & lower CO for MOT time due to not burning recirculated oil vapour

to be honest once i have the intercooler fitted what else would i nee to do to get 100bhp/100lbs of torque from my near enough stock metro turbo! i know it aint much but it i could get those magical figures LOL i'd be really happy with that for my daily hack!

got new metro turbo disks n bocsh pads & some new shoes for the rear drums today too so the braking is sorted too!

cheers all really appreaciated!!!!!!

right here we go this is where i'm thinking of putting the cooler, as its easier to relocate the air filter i reckon

this is a pic of the drivers side brake air feed but i'd obviously use the passenger side one

under the metro there is an air-feed pipe to the brakes, i could direct that air into this corner quite easily what ya reckon, only thing i'm struggling with is intercooler hoses *surprised*/ i have some but as i've said i'll mock up the intercooler position 1st in a decent spot & make the other pipes from there!

i'm thinking a large PC fan on a switch too so i can flick it on when the car is'nt moving to maybe keep the air a little cooler on tickover?

eight chaps as you know i have a escort series 2 rs turbo intercooler

but hoaxing around i have a rover tomcat turbo all alloy jobby simular in size to the ford one but its all alloy, my theory is as its alloy it'll disipate air intake heat a little better than the plastic ford item????

also have this airfilter which is the cleanist one i have
its the stainless mesh type, seems a good quality one & the mesh is super fine, i have k&n,pipercross & green air filters oil in the garage too!

what you reckon for my metro turbo?
as you can see my garage is a MESS!
