My TM disease is getting worse... I'm thinking about flogging my freshly skinned all steel doors and refurbing another set with alu' skins.

Can anybody recommend a supplier and give me a ball park figure on cost? I need to work out how much to ask for the steel doors (both with genuine heritage skins).

Thanks. I've already mailed him for a price, I reckon I can let my current doors go for less than he charges for doors with a none genuine skin.

http://www.magnumcarpanels.co.uk/default.htm are one of the main suppliers of the alloy skins, as passed the details on to dsn classics as they already had an account with them, and they wouldnt mail order for retail sales but said i could collect though, at iirc £25 a skin.

Was just looking at DSN, about £38 a side which isn't too bad. Wonder if they'll post...

Nope. Couple of small pop rivets at the top and glue along the fold. You just need a good clean well painted frame so that you don't get ellectrolite corrosion.

Andy.

I'm after a good Mk3 passenger door for the restoration of me mums's clubby estate.

If you do go down the route of selling your re-skinned jobs, can I be a bit cheeky and have first dibs on the passenger door matey ??

PS: No rivets, just Sikaflex 221 and clamp up overnight for the ali skins.

Ta.

Richard.

Minivanless, but reluctantly happy living with the decision. There'll be another one day.

I had a look at the aluminium ones at DSN just before Xmas as I needed a new skin for one of my doors and the ally ones weren't much more expensive than the non-genuine steel.

The only issue I had with it was that it lacks the additional angled strengthening strip along the top edge (where the window seal clips) so had little rigidity front to back at the top.

I decided that for a road car, it would probably make the window seal leak even more than normal so bought the steel one instead.

Possibly all the ally panels are like that, whoever makes them ???

But it was very light and looked well pressed otherwise.

Schrödinger's cat - so which one am I ???

Isle of Man

the ones from dsn are about £35 i think

as above, i dry fitted the skins to make sure the frames were ready to accept the skins, and drilled 2 rivet holes on the top sides where they fold over the side, took it off

Then laced the frame up with sikaflex, squelched it together with a few g clamps and wood on the panel to spread the pressure, whacked the rivets in, laced in a bit more sikaflex where its gonna fold over the frame, hammered the fold over a shade, then got the door tool on the go, viola

however, might be worth giving dave essex a bell as the fit wasnt 'perfect' i.e. the top will nee trimming slightly to get the height donw and level (im not going to bother on my car as its got poly windows and will prob end up on its roof shortly after getting on the road)

also the top hinge corner ran a little wide, so had to infold about 2 inches and refold around the door at a tighter angle

did 4 doors yesterday, took an hour to do the first, and then 25 mins to do all the other 3, well pleased the way they came out
