hey all, ive done a google search but it didnt realy help matters,
ive just bought an ex army landrover that has tax and test on it, the question is will i get in trouble if i park it on the road without insurance? im not worried about anyone stealling it as i has a rover v8 engine so probobly wont start even if they bring their own battery, and im also not worried about anyone scratching the paint on the bumpers by driving into it *happy*

ive parked taxed cars on the road without insurance befor and never had a problem with it, just wondered if its changed since?

obviously the thing to do would be to park it on the drive, however i dont have the space until i sell a few cars.

so has anyone ever been done for parking without insurance?

from what ive read via google if you park it in a public space road public carpark etc it must have insurance.

i would sugest you just insure it, you may not know but landrover theft is on the up in the UK and other cuntries as here in holland there are people that will pay megga bucks7000 euro's for a 90 2.5 na in mot able condition and for eny thing Landrover that is 25 years old but built befor 1986 that is becouse to run such a car in holland you would be paying in the regon of 3000 pounds per annumjust for tax but cars that are 25 years or older are tax exempt!

get the picture!

so if its eligable for classic car insurance just insure it that way and pay next to nothing to insure it on your current polisy with you normal evryday car. (if it works that way) for specialist insurance get your self an LRO magazine ad ring a couple of companeys in there.

As you may know landrovers come with the landrover bug you'll get infected and always have a landrover in you life from this day on!

I am a landrover man myself PM me if you get stuk with the V8 or are looking for fast ways to up the power a little I know a thing or two about them.

good luck

Cheers, Andrew

If it's on the public highway you need insurance and tax. I'm sure with limited milage and 3rd party only it wouldn't be much.

Fastest 998 mini in the world? 13.05 1/4 mile 106mph

I think you'll find we did a lot of things years ago but you'll find definition of use also extends to parking so sections 143 & 144 of the RTA apply. Is it worth 6 points to find out?

nuts il swap it for my mini on the lancaster policy, seeing as i havent driven the mini for a while, its got no mot and half the engines been sold i think i just about have the space to roll it onto the driveway now,

i dont have any pics of it yet as ive only left the guy up the road a deposit , but its a short wheel base with a truck cab, its origionaly built in 76 but registered as a p when it came out of service.
i knew thay were big money in africa but didnt know they were really worth much over here, its got 8 months mot and is costing me £1200

idealy id have got something with huge tyres and lift kits already fitted but this was literaly at the end of my road so i recon its gota be worth a gamble for that money, the only thing im not looking forward to is 15-20 mpg *oh well*

LPG it , but remeber big tyres and a hi lift will seriously damage the cr*p MPG

1200 is not bad if its got mot, and TBH probably a bargain. 1976 build year sound wierd as the first production defender 90 was built in 1982/83 if its a tru defender and not a leafspurng series 3 then is must be somthing special. the swiss army 90 "prototype was built in 1977/78!!!

Cheers, Andrew

its a series 3 lightweight with leafsprings, i havent even looked into how i can upgrade it but im suspecting it may not be the easiest car to start with, i know the tyres and lift kits arnt much good for mpg but they do look good *happy*
i may just try a few trials with it and change it for some sort of tax exempt rangerover/defender hybrid

il post a few pics up in the pics section once ive got it home.

I had an old 3.9i range rover. LPG made it bearable to run. The collapsed wheel bearing made stopping at speed interesting though...

LPG running costs are great. I did a conversion on a w124 E class merc once. Did 2 separate journeys to Heathrow airport from Lancaster, before and after conversion. First return one cost £90 in fuel. Second return journey cost £35 (4 months later). A few journeys like that and your £400 quid kit is paid for. Enough said!

Bigger returns for LPG on bigger engines.

im liking the sound of that, for me it would be doing 2.5 miles or 11.5 mile journeys only so wont even get time to warm up pushing the running costs up too :(
