HI ALL….Ok so I have started to get a lot of parts to change my spi mini to a turbo/carb
I have listed some of the main parts I have purchased to get the project going:
Hif44 turbo carb & plenum (from metro turbo)
Turbo inlet manifold (from metro turbo)
Metro turbo cylinder head
Megajolt lite jr /edis/ coil pack/trigger wheel
Garrett turbo GT1548 (am mounting on clutch housing for space reasons & don’t want turbo bulk head box
(Also will be making custom exhaust manifold)
And an intercooler will choose after work out how much space I have

What I am planning to do is get the car up to around 90-100bhp
I am wanting to know, should I get this sort of power out of the cooper spi engine without blowing it up

Also anyone got any suggestions on what else I should defiantly change parts wise while I am doing this turbo conversion
i.e.: is it worth changing to a turbo crank or cam or 1.5 high lift rockers?
Or any other thing I should be defiantly adding

Thanks in advance for any advice or comments

Cheers
Dan

Am sure if the spi bottom end is in good condition then it should be fine for the job.

You just need to make sure the compression is low enough, now im not clever enough to work that out but am sure someone on here will.

Sounds like you've got all the right bits to make a 100+hp car.

well in theory the emmisions should go by age of engine not by age of car however with MOT's being digitised the MOT tester will stick in your reg number and the emmisions figures will pop up on screen with no oppotunity for change

I think you will find it hard to get though an MOT the only suggestion is to find a garage that uses old equipment and is classic friendly

Its more to do with the fact that most MOT testers do not know how to fully use the equipment they have. Take for example a couple of years ago when the wifes car failed its MOT on emissions. I asked for a four gas read out and they said that the couldnt as the machine didnt give O2%. when, if the chap had only changed to another screen, it gave hime everything. The average MOT Testers are simpletons and its us that have to suffer.

So when some joey comes on here about how his 16v turbo vauxhall is great compared to ours, he can be given the 'bird'...
