Just had some new tyres fitted to my mini to replace the completely shagged ones that were on before. granted a bit of it is my spirited driving but surely they should wear better than they did.

the outside half was completey bald (i left these on a little too long) and the inside maybe 2" had 2mm ish tread left. if this right or should i go for a suspension setup?

its running adjustble tie bars, bottom arms etc.

also when turning at fully lock it would shudder a bit and push on.

dont want these tyres to only last a few miles *happy*

this is on 008's by the way.

i'd have thought that if the outside edge is wearing quicker then there may be too much postive camber, or the tracking might be way out.
no idea on the shuddering on full lock though dude.

my front suspension is standard and my tyres are wearing ever so slightly more on the inside edge, thats 175/50/13 A539's. i haven't had my tracking checked since i put a new steering rack on though.

my red one used to shudder and carry on going straight i think thats just bad understeer, the tyres are trying to grip the road but keep losing it hence the juddering sensation, although i must admit the tracking was out on my red car so getting it done may reduce that slightly

yeah its understeering but only at very low speeds, im talking sub 5mph. after that it sticks really well round anything.

i couldnt remember if it was the outside or inside that should wear a lot quicker.

best get it booked in at brownspeed to see what they can do for me! *smiley*

any more info appreciated

If both front tyres are worn the same (i.e both inside edges excessively worn compared to the outside edge) then it is likely that the tracking is out. If they wear differently then it is the suspension geometry. How many miles did you get from them by the way? The A008s are a very soft compound and never give loads of miles, on the front anyway.

If the tracking is out then when you turn to full lock the wheels will still not be pointing in the correct direction for the radius you are trying to turn so one will start scrubbing. This is possibly giving the suddering you describe. I think this can be described better, but you get the idea.

Mine sometimes shudders. it turns out that the tyre is just touching the innerarch on full lock.

Itf it only does it in 1 direction the rack might nor be centered.

its the edge nearest the arch that has worn which i thought was strange, thought the inside, i.e. engine side of the tyre that wore more.

not sure on mileage as they were already on the car.

scrubing centre feels as though the car is "pushing on" or understeering.

ill have to play a bit more really. anybody near me with some equipment for setting the suspension up that i can play with? dont want to just take it somewhere, want to learn the ins and outs at the same time (well atleast start!) *smiley*

Sounds like it make be tracking, toe in perhaps.

How do people setup there cars when they buy all the adjustable this that and the other. I always think its a bad idea to even sell it to people who cant set it up after.

What camber angle have you got it at ??

guys never expect anything to be right when you buy them unles you've seen it done to the car. Chap i know spent ?150k on a holden minaro from australia last year for UK GT's. This car was supposedly been built new to his spec and was ready to hit the track by one of the most respected ozzy holden builders (not saying who). It was a piece of junk, you couldn't even set the thing up, the adjustment had not been built in !!!!
