This is not true. Driveshafts are the same, apart from early Cooper S.

These new modern turbos with their quick spool up time, would make the competition harder.

Me too and I'm intrigued....

998 with disks (c85) are just over 25mm (so probably 1")

998 with drums (c81) are exactly the same.

998 with drums (c71) are just under 23mm (so probably 7/8")

Note the '71 shafts are the sliding joint, rubber cross coupling type, not for pot joints.

Is that what you meant by Mk2 ???

Schrödinger's cat - so which one am I ???

I've only ever seen these thin shafts on pot joint cars, seemed to be the economy biased cars with long final drives. Why they are thinner I have no idea.

They were fitted to (some!?) drum brake cars in the very late 70's to early/mid 80's. As far as I know:

Thin shaft / std. late shaft.
Thin: 18,3mm dia,
Std: ~25mm dia (didn't clean it to measure)

@Tom Fenton:
My car (early-ish 1984) was originaly equiped with a 2,95 diff & thin drive shafts! Sounds plausible :)

Cheers,
Jan

I've got no problem being correctified, but that's a new one to me...

So, the only sane thing to do is to fit a thick long one and a short thin one to correct torque steer.

Would there not be an increased risk of snapping these?

leeds/wakefield.

they are a new one on me also,

but a plus point may be at launch on the strip, you could get some serious twist much like a wrinkle wall tyre ,thus a shock less take up of tyre on tarmac,

now i just know wiggies going to be scratting around all the junk yards in MK for a set or three, lol

What this actually means is that Carl has tried to do this.

leeds/wakefield.

what Tom is refering to is the time i parted a shaft off to sleeve and lengthen for some chap, as i suspected it was harder/tougher on the skin than the core, this was backed up by my trying to eat some of the outer layer, it was very hard to bite a decent size piece off, but i could nibble away at the core with no bother,
