These new modern turbos with their quick spool up time, would make the competition harder.

As above. The carb and plenum are the only shared parts.

Interestingly here is a mini with a tomcat engine fitted

http://www.pistonheads.com/SALES/1494727.htm

I have a feeling that this is the same engine as the Maestro engine with a 16v head.

So yes it will fit, but I guess so will most engines with enough skill/time/ and compromises. That is to say, the one above looks shit, and the rad is in the back, loosing the boot. also with most of these conversions you increse the nose weight as the engines sit so far forwards.

It was the Montego turbo that claimed to be the fastest saloon car at 150mph. Both montego and maestro were underrated (ugly) cars in their day and only surpassed in affordablr performance by the serria cosworth.

Even the injection non turbo version were quick in their day. Abit fragile mechanically though.

My mate is restoring a Montego Turbo and is swapping out the engine for a Tomcat 16v engine (same/ similar short motor) after he destroyed the engine when the the Piper cam broke. He was getting into the 13s with it aparently

So when some joey comes on here about how his 16v turbo vauxhall is great compared to ours, he can be given the 'bird'...
