its just a quick one, ive bought a clean lookin engine today but the guy is a little unsure on condition of it but thinks it should run ok with no problems, now is there anything i can do without stripping to motor down to see what condition its like? it does turn over freely and like i said its complete and it does look painted and not grimey

any help will be great

Somewhere around Swindon

do one run with a compression tester write down the figures they should all be near the same 165 160 165 160 for example then another after with a little squirt of oil in the bore and see what the difference is if its massive then there is a problem with the rings *wink*

id do all of the above and then a bench test, it saves you fiting it in the car and then finding out its FUBAR
