hi, when i get my mini back i want to do the timing straight away, going to get it rolling roaded next week its booked, in but i need ot use it in the mean time.

when doing it, how many teeth down should the white line be when it flashes? Is it 7degrees (think thats 3&1/2 teeth) like on my old 998cc?

Thanks

the rollin road guy will need to adjust it anyway so you may as well leave it

no longer a series, but still 1.3 turbo.

each one of those teeth is 4degrees, so slighlty before the second tooth

yes thats it, not at all silly, i only just learnt how to do it and i was amazed how easy it was,
actually first would be 0, second down would be 4, and third down would be 8

sorry about that, i think im right, but if it goes pop its not my fault! try it and see, adjust it and if its not right adjust somemore

ok i did it, i used a long thin screw driver and got the piston to the top.

I marked this position on the flywheel(?) next to hte teeth iwth tippex and a nice thin line and hooked up the timing light it was quite a bit out.

I tell you what, im AMAZED now at the difference, i set it to slightly before the second tooth down and it was idling perfectly at 700prm. Its driving like a new car its really smooth and a hell of alot quicker even though its only at 4psi!
