just weld the bolts in one side,
and grind the lower half out to fit the after market downpipe, if you have one

These new modern turbos with their quick spool up time, would make the competition harder.

cheers rubicon

that's my job on my metro turbo 2moro weather permitting!

also one more quicky

whats my easyist way of joining a 1 3/4" pipe to a 2" pipe as this is the differance

i was thinking "just for quickness" of splitting the 1 3/4" pipe pening it out to slip into the 2" pipe & welding it up!

i'm a bit stick as coventry is crap for parts like exhaust pipe reducer/increaser sections etc off the shelf, you have order everthing 2 weeks ahead these days & pay fricken postage (another fckin tax to me)
sorry or my rant i'm in a nark today!

I have found that using the long manifold nuts (from Minispares) on the welded on bolts makes it even easier to manage the exhaust clamp problem.

I ditched mine in favour of one of these-

Alot easier to fit, aswell.

It is possible to weld both bolts to the clamp, dry assemble the clamp onto the exhaust and then shorten the bolts just enough to allow full thread depth of the brass nuts.

This is a peach when doing up the nuts whilst holding the clamps together.

And thoroughly agree with Tadge - use long brass exhaust manifold nuts.

When fitting the exhaust, use a reasonable amount of exhaust sealing paste and jack the exhaust downpipe up with a block of wood to hold it up tight in contact with the turbo elbow, that way the paste will be unbroken while you get the clamp in place then swivel the clamp to get the best position to put the nuts on.

To join the two pipes, I'd put 4 or 5 20mm long splits down the opening of the 2 inch pipe then push the 1 3/4 inside it by about an inch, bash down the 'tabs' and weld it and the splits up good and solid. Permanent job.

Good luck.

Richard.

Minivanless, but reluctantly happy living with the decision. There'll be another one day.

dave coxen you blinder!!!!! i think i'm the other dave the retarded one

not seeing wood for the trees springs to mind!

yep had a squiz at my exhaust on my stock metro turbo today & it has no springs on the ball joint at the end of the manufold tube, where to get them i dont know!

i've found a chap that'll do me a bit of tube that'll slip over the 1.75" standard manilfold tube & slip inside the 2" tube, i'll weld one end of my new adaptor to the main exhaust 7 use a u clamp on th other bit as the standard metro turbo is on tube from the manifold right to the exhaust backbox slip joint??????

my new exhaust in effect will have two slip joints NICE

just the blummin weather stopping me fit it now as i'm working on it outside grrrr/brrrrrrr

top stuff chaps appreciated!

I used a couple of springs from a scrap exhaust to repair our van's down pipe. Try Kwik fit's scrap pile lol
