Its a newly built n/a engine thats running a remote filte in addition to the standard oil filter. When I start the engine for the first in the day it wont build oil pressure ticking over. I need to drive it slowly to get the light to go out. For the rest of the day it will go out in a few seconds after starting. Is this normal with a remote filter, or what could be causing it? |

also i recon a cracked / fubar pump could cause the same, and i also think if your driving it with no oil pressure then the bearings will be about shot.. Yes i moved to the darkside |

In the past I have had an engine do that. Stripped the engine down and found that one of the cam bearings had spun in the block which then wasn't allowing flow around the engine. This destroyed main/big end bearings, cam bearings, and my crank which was hardened only just survived without a regrind. |

The bearing spun and blocked one of the holes off. It stopped oil getting to the top of the engine. My theory was that the pump was just pushing oil straight onto the main/big ends and never being replaced with oil that had gone through the system to be filtered properly. I ran it like this for around 50 miles before I noticed but by then it was to late. |

Normally you get the highest oil pressure from first start up. Try priming first...if it works then pump issue. On 19th Jan, 2010 wil_h said:

How high is the oil filter and in what orientation? On 26th Oct, 2004 TurboDave16v said:
Is it A-Series only? I think it should be... So when some joey comes on here about how his 16v turbo vauxhall is great compared to ours, he can be given the 'bird'... On 26th Oct, 2004 Tom Fenton said:

Sorry to hijack the thread but how long does it take to get oil pressure just off the starter motor. I'm about to fire the turbo up in a couple more weekends and at the moment I've just checked that oil pressure is there. It's taking around two 5-10sec attempts. once the pressure shows on the mechanical gauge it goes all the way round to 100psi. Should it normally take this long or am I just worring for nothing. |
