Is it A-Series only? I think it should be... So when some joey comes on here about how his 16v turbo vauxhall is great compared to ours, he can be given the 'bird'... On 26th Oct, 2004 Tom Fenton said:

Anyone seen the con rods from some of the latest small car petrol engines? The main beam is triangular with nothing in the middle and the big end cap was originaly part of the whole rod, which has then been fractured off, thus reducing machining processes. Trick stuff!! The modern Jaguar V8 engines have also got this "fractured" big end rods. I guess they can do it as the sintered rods are very hard and brittle. Makes honing them a bitch though

They are still made from forged steel, it is a special steel that is fracture split, and does so along the grain structure, meaning it splits and fits back together perfectly.
