hey, another stupid mistake that im trying to fix. Ok, when i decided to turbo my car i went to a mechanic to find out if he could engineer the car, he said it was fine as long as i had a disc break front end, my uncle sold me a 7inch disc break set up for $100, i then spent $600 reapiring them and a further $400 for a 7inch booster, the same day i got and install'd all these parts i found out how useless they were, mainly because of the thickness (mine are down to 4mm after machining) and design of the disc's and hub's (bad heat transfer causes break fade), so now im thinking of making my own disc's with hub's out of a different (better) material, to origional thickness, with groove's machined in both side's to improve breaking, it wont cost me much appart from time and i can make them very accurate........but i dont wana make the same mistake as my inlet idea and find out there is an easier and cheaper way, can you's help me out with some advice? 998 turbo |

i think you should forget all about making your disks. I think you may end up in hospital as a result. Disks are made from some pretty high spec cast iron. Anybody wanting fancy disks really needs to talk to a good knowledgeable AP dealer or similar brake manufacturer. |

Yea, the blokes that work next door to me are ABS breaks, they specialise in rally breaks and put me on to a metal call'd Spheroidal Gruphite, its a type of cast iron they use for breaks and i'v been told it can be machined. 998 turbo |

If you want to upgrade you can retain your swivel hubs. Remove the caliber, disc and drive flange as well as CV joint. The swivel hub and wheel bearings will fit any Mini disc brake setup. Instead of Cooper S stuff you can use 12" flange/dics and machine them down. If you fit another make caliber you may need to shim the caliber to hub accordingly. I would sell the 7" Cooper stuff to a restorer, no really worth anything in hi po use. Personally I don?t like mix and match, it is so much more hassle when you need to replace something.
