My buggy & a couple of my mates at the Willowbank Autocross last sunday
Gaz is in the purple thing & Stew is the mello-yello thing
sorry the vid is so shit,,, I couldn`t sort out the editting bit so i just shoved it all on there
Buggy was 3rd fastest laps outright,,, there was 45 competitiors,,, lots of 4x4 turbo rally cars there, wrx`s, Sti`s & Fords etc... only the 2 Mitsu EVO-9s just a tad in front of me,,, but i`ll fix that next meeting
One standing start lap, on dirt, then a flying lap.
I still havn`t sorted my left-foot-braking yet,,, very messy so i gave up on that for the day--> (peddles are being modded as i speak) & it`s way way way too tall geared for any decent standing start, so i`ve already found a 13tooth front Colin,,, ah er... i mean front "Sprocket", so i can throw away the 15 tooth one then i`ll start much better-er also fitting much wider front rims (with bead-locks) to get the tyre to sit flatter & not buldge so damn much , drop even more pressure out of them & more grip means more go-forwards

yeah i`m hanging to get it out to Lakside Raceway with the slicks on it, Mt Cotton & Grafton & Mt Cootha & Noosa Hillclimb meetings to come soon too
Ive moddified the brake peddle to be more "left-foot" friendly now, i`ve also extended the throttle peddle cause some times i was missing the damn thing completely around the autocross track
I now have a 200hp engine option , still in n/a form & i`m thinking of grabbing it
I just don`t think the turbo would do this can any justice at the moment.,. maybe later when i`ve got more of a handle on it
My neck is still sore from last weekends race

ok,,, 3rd fastest time again last meeting,,, i made a few small changes before the event & they definately helped,
I zipped up the gear ratio a tad,,, softened the front end & stiffened the rear end, made my brake peddle a bit more accessible for my left foot & all made it faster & easier to drive, so now i`m only a bees-dick away from fastest time outright
But!!! Iv`e decided to make it even easier for me to accomplish that,,, with a bit of thought (& quite a few drinkies i might add) i`ve decided to make it 4x4
Now it`s not so hard to do actually,,, i`m going to take the front diff assy out & shove it in the back,,, make a new front diff assy with 2x sprockets (side by side) & run a chain from the 2nd sprocket to the rear diff.
chain will run half under the car (through nylon square section tube) & then run back to the front via above the floor pan (again through another square section nylon tube , but with thick "Hat" shaped steel cover/housing.
The WRx`s & Evos are getting 1&1/2 secs on me just off the start line within the first 60ft & i`m chasing most of that back during the lap, but i figure it will be easier if i`m 4x4 & turbo too
watch this space for the new "Improved" version,,, turbo 4x4 R1 "thing"
Any thoughts on ratios between front & rear diffs?????

yeah i know, He used to be really good at it years ago, but hasn`t done it for ages,,, he`ll warm back up into it i`m sure
I`ve started building the new front diff assy & cradle,,, we have ideas about the rear arms , making them accept cv joints & wheel brgs etc
so we`re on the way

are you binning the such drive then?
we had trouble finding front sprockets that were compatible?

Keeping the LSD front diff, just adding another sprocket to it to drive the rear end
Taking the moke rear arms off & replacing with 45mm hollow go-kart axle, held in place by 2 pairs of self cetering go-kart rear axle bearings & their respective billett alloy retainers sandwiching a 10mm thick alloy plate inbetween each pair for the plates to become the uprights, swing the rose-jointed, 4-link, with watts-link lateral assy & coil-over shock mounts onto,,, one decent size disc brake rotor & alloy Willwood caliper attached to the right rear bearing/up-right assy, & then add the 530-13t sprocket & carrier next to the left rear bearing/up-right assy , throw some 8ft of chain at it,,, & tensioner assy & we`re done,,, pretty easy cause i already have most of all that here
i had front sprockets made in (530) 13t & had the center cut by CNC-EMS hot wire cutter for the internal spline, only because yamaha don`t make a 13t front in 530 to fit the R1
easy-peasy & cheap as chips ($140 for 2 of them),,, & the same mob is making me up 3x 530-42t sprockets & 2x tensioner/roller Colins,,, ar,,,er,, "sprockets" at the moment)
I`m feeling like the extra drag of the rear chain & guides etc & also the 4x4 """"traction thing"""" may suck a bit too much power for my liking so we have a little Hair-drier to fit onto the thing after it`s all running with the 4x4 gear fitted & (hopfully) sorted out any handling issues
But for now i`m running it as it is at the next meeting on the 16th of May,,, then ripping the front diff out to add the 2nd sprocket & shove it straight back in & run it again next month,,,, & after that meeting i`ll throw the steering & seat & cage up 100mm & lay in the rear chain guides,,, then run it again the folling month,,, then by that time i reckon i`ll have the rear end sorted & ready to fit,,, so maybe in a few months,,, give or take a month or 2 for surfing holidays (3 weeks in Byron bay leaving this thursday for starters)
It`s a hard life hey???
