Some more info of what you are wanting to do would be a good idea?

No point in a poll without more information about what you want from the car.

Without wanting to sound like I'm being harsh on a new member....

The best thing you can do is have a read. There are cars of all specs on this site. Looking at them will help you decide what you want to do. The search button is also very good. Most things have been covered a good few times.

Once you have decided exactly what it is you want to do, people will be happy to help with specific questions about things not generally covered else where.

www.turbo-mini.com is also well worth a read. Covers both 998 and 1275 turbo conversions.

EDIT: Hello and welcome BTW

You will find that on this forum, people do not just spout opinion without some basic facts.

Is this your daily drive or a track car may be a good starting point. What is your horsepower target. How many thousands of pounds do you want to spend?

I think you should open your wallet and count how much money is in there, then remember how good it felt to have that much money.

Then start building a turbo engine.

sorry about this thread, i did have a poll and thought it would be in my actuall intro (1 below this thread) and sort of meloned up ><

basically i have been thinking about setting up a garrett t3 metro turbo as i have a few parts that are needed (i am a novice in forced induction btw) and thought to get info from other members who know what they are doing.
i (at the moment am thinking of spending a few hundred pounds on it (but dont know whether a 998 or a 1275 would suit it [i have both engines btw]) and it would be a mild road car yes

Right, well for a start, you cannot fit the T3 with the Metro manifold without removing the engine and welding in a bulkhead box. You could try to get hold of a Mirage manifold that allows you to fit a T2 turbo without bulkhead mods.

I would not turbo the 998 unless you have a specific reason. If you do, you will soon want more power and end up doing a 1275.

I suggest that you build up the 1275 for turbo use, but a few hundred quid will not be enough.

As far as costs go a point worth noting is that apbellamy and I have spent over £1000 converting our N/A metro van to turbo and probably still haven't finished spending.

There is a rule I learnt when I got into proper engine mods...

You can only have 2 of the following...
Cheap
Reliable
Powerfull

From the looks of things you only have a small number of the parts required for a turbo conversion. You will need to do some reading and make yourself a shopping list.

If something is worth doing, it's worth doing half of.

Near Paris - France

There is a 600 ish pounds spec for a 90ish bananas 998 that is topped in the 998 section.

Read that, count out what you already have, find a price for what you miss and prepare your hard earned cash ...

That is only 600 because I got free parts from work and am not wanting lots of bananas and I am in no hurry so I gather parts slowly and cheaply ...

Ho and have fun !
