If I Was To Have A Rotten Classic Cooper And A Good Solid Sprite Shell Would It Be Possible To Transfer The Tags Legaly To Use The Good Shell But With The Old Running Gear ??? Thanks |

should be fine, but dont do what some people do and put mk1 plates on a mk4 that doesnt even have a mk1 grill :L |

I think re-shelling is legal providing you keep and certain amount of parts from the original car.

chassis numbers are stamped into the scuttle on later cars, i believe jason is right legally you can only reshell into a new shell

Not sure on the 'Q' plate laws..but if you have a shell with no numbers, lost etc...but can prove the year of manufacture, can you get a age related plate? On 19th Jan, 2010 wil_h said:

Mines in a different shell documents are 1983, shel is a donor 1991 shell.

I think in the past it was common practice to do such things. But it is frowned upon these days. And the DVLA have properly clamped down
