I think re-shelling is legal providing you keep and certain amount of parts from the original car.

EDIT: But please don't quote me in a court of law.

Think it has to be a new shell from the factory to use the same same chassis number.

Somewhere around Swindon

chassis numbers are stamped into the scuttle on later cars, i believe jason is right legally you can only reshell into a new shell

you could legally transfer all the parts into the sprite and keep the sprite log book

my car should be a mk2 but when i bought my shell from heritage they only sold mk4 so thats what i reshelled it into, its legal and looks ok but would have prefered the correct year type if it had been available

Not sure on the 'Q' plate laws..but if you have a shell with no numbers, lost etc...but can prove the year of manufacture, can you get a age related plate?

Mines in a different shell documents are 1983, shel is a donor 1991 shell.

as before nobody needs to know.

But if I had the dosh a new heratige shell would be my way to go on hindsight.

And i already know i will be reshelling this mini in about 10 years time orso. depends how long it lasts befor i get fed up with welding new bits into it.

What do you call a 'classic Cooper'? A mk1 or2?
If so then its a bit of a no no really

Paul

I seriously doubt it!

I think in the past it was common practice to do such things. But it is frowned upon these days. And the DVLA have properly clamped down

I suspect your roten Cooper is just a piece of paper.

On your head be it, as it's not legal.
