I while back I bought what I thought was a genuine metro turbo engine with turbo and all the gubbin's, anyway the engine has been sold off for parts as it was a pre A+ and I needed the money! I kept the bits I thought I would need for my eventual conversion; turbo, manifolds, cam and head, all of which I assumed were standard metro turbo items.

I have recently bought another genuine metro turbo engine off a mate, I began to strip it down the other night just to see the condition of it, I took the head off and compared it to the one I already had, It seems the previous one I had was a bit more special to the standard metro item.

So what have I got, Ive taken a few rough dimensions to see what you guys think.

Standard,

12940 - also 687 raised lettering
Exhaust ports 24x24mm
Inlet ports Ø34
Inlet valves 32mm
Exhaust Valves 29mm

Not so standard,

12940 - also 20J9 raised lettering
Exhaust ports 32x28mm
Inlet ports Ø38
Inlet valves 38mm
Exhaust Valves 29mm
11 Stud
slightly opened up chambers

Cheers Matt

Was there a pre- A+ turbo engine?? didn't think so..

If you are looking to find which head is a turbo head then look at the valve stems, a turbo head has thicker stems on the exhaust. It should also have a "T" stamped near the thermostat housing. On the other end the exhaust valves are usually smaller than a standard N/A head

Either way its not essential to have a turbo head, s/s valves do the job apparently, just search the forum and all will be revealed..

There wasn't a Pre A+ a series turbo but I was led to believe it was a genuine metro turbo engine!

Sorry if I wasn't clear, but they are both turbo heads but one has been worked on and I just wondered if this was a good modification, i.e 38mm inlet valves, 32x28mm exhaust ports and Ø38 inlets? also the kind of cc the head might be if someone has one similar

The modified one looks to be intended for NA use. Judging by the distance between the plug hole and the face, the chambers look small.

You will probably find there's not many cc's in there. Only one way to know fore sure. Measure it.
