Just been trying to set my timing today because the car was running really bad when i got it back. Twisting the dizzy slightly clockwise has made a big difference, the revs rised and it stopped missfiring as much. I cant see a mark though with the timing light to set it to, so maybe it hasnt got one. Previous Engine: 1040cc Morespeed engine, 1275 turbo head T2 Turbo Mirage Manifolds Megajolt

Try moving your spark plug HT cables around to the next hole in an anticlockwise direction. This has the effect of moving your timing clockwise by 90 degs. You will most likely end up having to rotate the body of the dibby anticlockwise a fair bit from where it is now, as the 90 degs gained will be way to much but it will mean that the assembly should be well clear of your starter when its in the correct position.

by the way to find top dead centre, do i just find the exact position that the dizzy arm is in when its firing at cylinder one yeah? I was thinking of pushing the mini in 4th gear to rotate the the rotor arm to find this, with a torch will i be able to see the piston down the spark plug hole??

to find tdc i take out plug (all 4 makes it a bit easier to turn engine over). I then carefully lower in a welding rod or stiff peice of wire into cyliner 1 and turn the engine over. you will feel very easily when the engine goes over tdc. You will have a mark some where, usually on the Crank damper / pulley

you can al;so remove the dizzy and replace it a tooth out on the dizzy drive Everyone knows that instructions only have to be read if the thing doesn't work....

it worked, now with the dizzy twisted fully to the left (anticlockwise) the vacuum advance mushroom is at the top, and the timing is pefect according to my timing light and it runs alot smoother. Could do with playing with the teeth next though and getting the timing right within the centre of the dizzys twisting ammount.
