Hi

I have been planning to learn the guitar for a while now and thought i would ask peoples opinions.

I have a lot of experience in music but from the brass background and have always thought playing the guitar looked pretty cool!

Only question is really where do i start. I have seen these starter packs online with all you need for £90 but are these any good. Would i be better off starting with an acoustic guitar etc?

Any help would be great

Thanks

Jon

I had the same idea about 3 yrs ago and it has sat in the corner gathering dust ever since!
I have a Fender squire Bullet electric guitar, Park by marshall amp small practice job 40 watts, lead, tatty bag, home made stand and a tuning thingi. I have no idea what it is worth but if you fancy make me an offer?

Cheers james

edit, I fitted new strings when i bought it don't know if they fall apart over time or from playing it lots, if the latter they are brand new :)

That sounds great - let me have a look around for prices etc. Or if anyone can suggest how much it might be worth?

TBH I am in to most music genre's, I have been on you tube looking at videos. I like a lot of the musci by pink floyd but as i said would play most things once i could.

I like also like some of the things daniel johnson has come out with so quite a range.

Cheers

Jon

The starter packs are a ok place to start, I had one about 15 years ago and its still functional, almost lol.

The only problem with the cheaper electric guitars is the action on the strings is quite high and can make it harder to fret notes when you are just beginning and have weak fingers.

Nylon string acoustics are easier on the fingers, but not to everyones taste. It depends what type of music you are looking to play.

Get along to your nearest shop and have a feel for the different types, I've had allsorts over the years and still want to buy more even though I barely play now.

Once you have the basics sorted, it would be a good idea to get a good secondhand model, you will be amazed at the difference and how easy it is to play compared to the cheaper model, and don't forget to get it setup correctly by someone who knows what they are doing.

Yeah go for electric then.

I'd go with something cheap and cheerful for a starter guitar. Because if you get bored, or can't pick it up then you haven't lost a bucket load of cash.

Fender squire is a good starters guitar, give pretty crisp sounds for the money.

I have a nylon string guitar with in my collection lol, and the personally the fret board is just too wide, and i find it a pain in the ass to play.... And i have big hands lol.

I play guitar.
Started with acoustic but went to electric pretty quickly.
Later I've bought a western guitar (like acoustic but with all steel strings) because you dont have to take guitar + amp + pedals etc. when you go somewhere.

And, your fingers will heal with time.. *smiley*

Dazed and Confused....

Mine gets in the way a bit, but only when it is up. If it is down it does not cause a problem.

hi squiers are very good starter guitars, i started on those myself.

i currently have, a fender telecoustic, 1 tele and 2 strats which all 3 are copies but better than fenders themselfs hence why i brought 3 :), ive also had a gibson LP studio but it wasnt for me so got rid, and a tokai LP (the dearer ones) but im a fender man so that sold aswell. My main amp is a relic re-issue marshall jtm-45 (pride and joy) and matching cab and my house amp is a marshall vs102R... got a nice lil collection now.

what sort of music are you into as if your into heavier stuff i would recomend an epiphone to start on if thats the case... if not asquier will be perfect *wink*

P.s. as much as i love marshall amps i gotta say, dont get the solid state cheap marshall amps there dam awefull

Sweet! If I had the money I would be getting a Japanese LP copy. Preferably in silverburst 8-)

I have learned a new appreciation for the Tele sound since seeing Isis live a couple of months ago. I still want an LP though because I am obsessed with Sunn o))) at the moment.

Make sure to post pics if you do get one
