Hi, just won a beautiful Metro clubman 998 with 25,000 on the clock with the intention of leaving the exterior completely standard except a set of wheels, and tuning the 998. I have stripped 1275s before so know my way around A series units but have never dabbled with turbos before.*smiley*

After a little research, it appears the standard pistons give a Compression Ratio of 9:1 which is actually lower than the 1275 turbos 9.4:1. I have looked around for lower compression pistons but can't seem to find any for the standard bore.

I'm planning on using a Garrett T2 running low loost at first (Would I be able to run without an intercooler initially?). Any comments would be appreciated

Hello and welcome.

Sounds like a good plan. Me and 'John' are turboing our metro van, there's a thread in 'show us yours' somewhere if you fancy a read

Hi and welcome to TM.

If you are planning on blowing the 998 there is plenty of information about this in the 998 section of this forum.

The below link is also a good place to start.

You can run without an intercooler without any problems but you will be missing out on what is basically free power.

If something is worth doing, it's worth doing half of.

Hell and welcome.

9:1 would be a suitable CR to allow you to run about 12psi so more chamber volume may not be required. You may need to change the pistons if they can't handle the boost

Just a few pics of the beast to be. Can't wait to embarrass someone at the lights once I sort the engine!
